Default The Next Great Wilderness Explorer ... Elijah Samuel

What a busy week it has been! My son was born on Monday morning. He and Mama are doing well.

The kind of "survival" that I will be doing for a while is surviving a newborn! So far he has been really content. I just hope I can raise him with a fear of God and respect for the natural world.

Thanks, everyone. I have truly been blessed. I asked the Lord for a son "lest my father's name perish from the earth." This is the first (and will be the only) Shockley boy of the current generation. Now there will be Shockleys to trouble the earth for years to come!

I echo that concern. Surnames normally live for untold generations until no sons are born to parents. Then that limb of the genealogy tree dies. That's pretty sad to me. My youngest is expecting another child in August and I'm selfishly hoping for a boy for that very reason. We only have one grandson that carries our name right now.

Well, I was 4 years old when I started carrying a pocket knife, and he is going to be smarter than I was, so 3 or 3 1/2 ... Not sure how the wife will like it, though!

Okay, from left to right we have a bridge builder, a preacher, a loafer (for now), and what does that smart lookin' guy on the right do? (he ain't sayin' much and it looks like he has a big stick. Pretty smart in my book.)

    Congratulations PTW!
