The New Garden.

Here's a few pics of the new beds with stuff actually growing in them!

#1 Strawberries. Just setting flowers
#2 Shallots
#3 Tomatoes with carrots, lettuce, Pak Choi and Spring Onions. A sneaky way to maximise growing

#4 Borlotti Beans. These have only just emerged, I'll need to thin them out once they'r a bit bigger.
#5 Potimaron Winter Squash.
The of the other 11 beds two have Runner beans, two more have another 12 tomato plants, lambs lettuce more spring onions planted the same way as the tomato bed shown. One is a seed bed with Purple Sprouting Broccoli, Spring Cabbage, Curly Kale and Red Cabbage and 2 more beds with more Potimarons. The other beds are temporarily empty waiting for the brassicas.
Considering I did'nt really get going til the middle of April, I'm pretty chuffed with what I've managed so far

Yes and no Hunter. The beds are actually pallet collars, theyre made to sit on the pallets to make a box. They're oblong and hinged at the corner, to fold flat when not in use. I got them from a local pallet company. All you have to do is open them up and bingo! instant raised bed.
Oh and yes, they were started this year.

Well, I knew there would be enough room to grow 6 tomatoes per bed. I then had a lightbulb moment and divided the bed into 6 growing spots for the tomatoes by sowing the other veg(all pretty quick growing). Photo 3 shows what I mean. These crops will be finished before the tomatoes need more space. So I get 5 crops out of a 4ftx3ft bed instead of just one!

Oh, I see, I thought you meant that your tomatoes would grow better

Looks Great! Not sure what pok choi is, but all the rest sound delicious. Please take pictures as it progresses. Very clever way to get all the growing you can in one spot. Nice work!

What a difference a month makes!! I've just today started training the Squash vines and the other beds are now full of winter veg. The tomatoes are just starting to flower. Oh and I'm picking strawberries!

The Pak choi is just about finished now, but I'm still harvesting the salad leaves, they just seem to go on for ever!

Yea but after awhile,they get kind of bitter,that is when I pick top leaves only and treat my rabbits with it.

Honestly, it's so much easier to look after(especially if you have back problems!) than a standard garden. I've also found because it is easy to maintain I'm spending a lot more time out there keeping it reasonably neat and tidy. Winnie jnr did mention something about the beds not being in rows, but hey, I like a bit of unruliness!
