everyone, can have their say on the net thru youtube

i myself have 2+ gigs of youtube videos regarding outdoors / wild edibles / survivalist topics

everyday i type in " DIY " ( do it yourself ) and see if there's something out there i can try or use

has Youtube changed the world ?

I met my best friend down here, Giuliano, through YT. I had posted my machete modification video in English. He ran across the video and heard me pronounce "Tramontina" correctly as a Portuguese speaker would. That got him interested to see what connection I have with Brazil. He lives 7 minutes away from me here.

Technology has a funny effect. With the advent of the word processor everyone has become a writer. For the most part it has lowered the bar in terms of good writing (texting is a prime example), but it has also freed people up from having to convince a publisher to get their message out. That can be both good and bad. Good in that good writers have a chance they never did and bad in that to find good writing you have to sift through an avalanche of drivel.

The same goes for video. It is very easy to shoot and publish video material now but YT is flooded with drivel as well as a few real gems that never would have been discovered otherwise. Mac

For me it is an irritation. My system does not agree with Utube. Pictures come across as broken animation with choppy sound and take an eternity to download. And Flashplayer wants to constantly add stuff to my computer.

Links and clips on posts instead of information do me no good. Everyone assumes that everyone else just pops over to utube and checks out the daily info, watches the latest movie from the archives or has seen the fat guy breakdancing.

One of my greatist irritations is to see an interesting post title, click on it and it is a Youtube link. It is followed by 50 two word posts of "great link", "'atta-boy", or "Me too"

I know, I am still in the dark ages. I am still waiting to see if this computer thing really catches on.

I just signed up for YT and am still in the figuring it out stages. I have seen many very informative clips on YT and have learned a lot. My motivation for signing up was to hopefully pass along some of the things that I have learned to somebody that might be interested.

Many public figures have become all too involved with YT. With the advent of cell phones and digital cameras that are capable of shooting video, it would be wise for public figures to assume that they are being taped.

As far as threads that just post a link to YT with no explanation - that's why we started a video of the day thread. Some use it, some don't. Sometimes I stay kind of busy moving threads to it.

I have been a member of youtube since shortly after it started. I have never posted a vid partly because I didn't have video equipment but I didn't get the video equipment because I'm the least photogenic person I know and I didn't want to subject the World to video torture. I have now got a phone that can take digital vids so I may post some now. Still now where you'd see my face in it. Trust me it is for your own protection.
Yes youtube has changed the world and not necessarily for the betterment of culture.

It has definitely changed things and all the drivel is just a system of checks and balances. If it were all excellent info we'd all be experts on everything. Can't have that.

Change the world? That's a pretty tall order. I would guess that the vast majority of citizens don't have access to a computer and many of those that do have access don't have the technology and/or the desire to visit YT. Is it a good tool? Sure. Just like all the other IT gizmos (Twitter, Wikipedia and so on). Now, everyone can prove they are the genius they always knew they were.
