In Big Cypress you are supposed to fill out a back country pass. It is just a carbon copy form that you pick up at the trail head. You put one copy in the box and tie the other copy to your pack.

Other places down here you sign in and out.

    *EDIT*

    Tallulah Gorge Specific:

PET RULES: For animals' safety, pets are not allowed on the gorge floor or on any trail accessing the gorge. Leashed pets are still allowed on rim trails.

    PERMITS:
Free permits are required to access the gorge floor and can be obtained at the Interpretive Center. Visitors must wear proper footwear to obtain a permit -- no flip-flops or crocs. Permits will not be issued after 4 p.m.
Permits limited to 100 per day. On busy days, permits may run out early in the morning. Permits are not transferable.
Groups of 20 can get permits on Saturday and Sunday only. Groups of 30 can get permits Monday through Friday only. To protect the natural resource, no groups larger than 30 are allowed.
Weather and water flow conditions can restrict gorge floor access.

To go through the gorge floor you will also have to get wet. When I went there Thursday, they told us that we couldn't go because it was to wet...

You don't need a pass to go around the gorge. All the pictures that I've shown never needed the pass. I have never gotten the pass though it lets you go to the very bottom where there is no safety railing. And if that isn't good enough, there's also some other trails in the area.

I hope this has not died out. Was really excited about this trip. I have plenty of questions on wild edibles. Bring your thinking caps!

No, it's still going on. I think we were waiting to see if anyone else voted for the date they wanted.

Soon as CBS closes the poll we will begin to talk more in depth about it.

    BUMP!

By the way, the poll says it has been closed without a winning date.

Yeah that means we need to for CBS to make the decision final so we can start making plans.

So please PM him and bug him until he posts. =)

Just remembered that I will not be able to do May 1-2. I will be participating in Relay For Life on April 30 and may not get any sleep. Don't think it matters since no one voted for that date, but just a heads up.

As far as I know, I can do that weekend. I may even be able to get there on Thursday the 13 after work. But that might be pushing too much on the other attandees.

To those of you going or at least thinking about going is there any specific thing you want to do? By this I mean we can work on skills, go hiking, go fishing, just eat all day and hang out.

It would be awesome to get a few people that can show how to pick out wood for making a bow drill and then how to use it, maybe someone that can do plant identification, and so on.

I can possibly make it down on that Friday. I am 100% good on the fishing part. Everything else is good to.

There's only a few skills that I'm somewhat decent at. It's about limited to eating and sleeping. So I'm open for learning. I'm definitely game for the eating. I might not look like much, but I sure can put it away.

I will put this on my calendar and see what happens. A day trip may be my only choice since it's baseball, turkey, and trout season.
