What do you guys think of an Automated Rescue Notification System. A system which would allow you to enter your trip schedule and emergency contacts. Then raise alerts to your emergency contacts if you dont cancel you schedule when you are back.

I have the ARNS up and running and would like to get your opinion.

Would need a lot more information before it could be considered. The website you provided tells nothing of significance, such as your experience, your qualifications, how will you protect the information you are given. Are there any licenses? References, history, time in this industry?

I am not asking you consider it, I am only asking what you would think about the idea. My question has nothing to do with my credentials or the implementation.

Just by going on what you've provided, how is that better than me telling my contacts, which I do, if you don't hear from me by XX call SAR. My GPS starting point is XX.XX.XX and I'll be on a heading of DD.MM.

If all you are doing is notification then it is of no value to me. With something like SPOT, on the other hand, it at least offers up my GPS location so SAR can pinpoint where I am. (I'm not an advocate of SPOT, just using them as an example)

Good question. Telling contacts is always recommended and should be normal practice. ARNS can be used as a backup. Relying on humans leaves room for error, contacts can forget the date and time you will be back or confuse with a later date and time. Nobody misses you, nobody comes looking.

I have no experience with SPOT but seems like a good tool to have. However it assumes somebody misses you or you are capable of hitting the button for help.

Again the more backups to telling contacts the better. ARNS is also free.

Not something I would consider. I would prefer to leave my safety in the hands of people I know and trust. People whos credentials and method of implimentation I do know. Learned long ago, don't trust my safety to unknown persons.

I think it's an interesting concept. I'd definitely have to hear more about it before saying I'd try it.

As a potential user I would want to know:

-How is this better than emergency services tracking my Phone of GPS?

-More importantly, what kind of security do you have on my information. I'm going to be posted exactly where I am going for the next X days, not to mention all of the contact information for my friends and family.

Its a cool idea, but too many people would get ballsy and do stuff they shouldnt be doing. There are already people walking unprepared into the backcountry who dont care if they get lost or hurt because they have their emergency gps thingy with them. IMO, if you even need to get rescued while lost, you shouldnt be out there. You should have the skills and knowledge to get you by for a while. You dont even need food for a couple of weeks and its not hard at all to find a water source and build a shelter. If you cant even do that, and your relying on your gps, your being a HUGE burden on rescue crews.
