    i think it's a perfectly fine idea, with one caveat:

    most such sites will sell you anything which is not restricted [in their own jurisdiction], but will report any and every purchase which is reportable, to help make sure you aren't building destructive devices, or synthesizing controlled substances.

    this leaves open the possibility that you might mistakenly make a purchase, or series of purchases which is unlawful or when taken in combination appears suspicious in your own jurisdiction, and also that if you are a hobby basement chemist, that you may be arrested for what they believe you are doing, even if you are just conducting exercises from a college text book.

    i remember reading an anecdote about a freelance or unemployed chemist trying to make a novel underarm deodorant arrested under suspicion of manufacture of MDMA.
