Bugging In or Bugging Out

Variables aside, are you more inclined to Stay Put during a major event or But Out? You vote.

Put me down as an "in". I suppose this might change depending upon the nature of the disaster, but assuming my home is still accessible / habitable it seems a much more logical place to dig in than anywhere else I could go.

Even if there's no electricity, I have food in my freezer, fridge and larder which will last me a while. Not indefinitely, but it's much easier to obtain than food out in the wilds. If my neighbors have taken off, then I have their food too. If things drag on to the point where I need to obtain food, then in my yard and around the immediate neighborhood I can catch deer, squirrels, rabbits, dogs, cats, goats, foxes and horses. There are cows in the field about 1/2 a mile from my house.

Not only is my house a ready made shelter, I have clothing, blankets, sleeping bags and a comfy bed. I have tools, (saws, axes, hatchets, spades etc) camping gear, rope, flashlights and batteries, wire, reading materials, cooking utensils, cut and stacked wood, water containers, gas containers, knives and dozens of other things that could prove useful in a survival situation. To take all those with me would require my BOV to be a U-Haul truck.

My well is electric powered but all I need to do is lift off the cover and I can lower containers down into it. And I have fresh water in the boiler and in those of the houses round about me. I have 3 working vehicles, each with gasoline.

If it comes to defending what's mine (or what I've already stolen) I think that would be far easier to do from inside my house, than from a wilderness camp.

In short, I can't think of any reason why I would want to leave my house. It seems to me, that any negatives to staying home would be just as applicable in the wilderness, if not more so.

I'd be interested in hearing from those who think otherwise though.

I too would prefer to bug in. Each situation needs to be assessed, but if the situation (and I think most would) allows me to stay, I can last a long time. Food for about 6 months, water the same, fuel for generators (intermittently) to last a couple of months, plus all the comforts of.....

Depends on what the situation is but for the most cases I think I would stay home there are alot of resourses and things that can be used.
