The "12" foot pounds they are talking about it the energy of the fired pellet. Not the cocking effort.

I have a GAMO Hunter Sport. It is very effective on pigeons and it weights around 7 pounds. The one I have it .177 caliber.

A pellet gun that fires an 8.0gr pellet at 800fps generates 11.36 foot-pounds of energy. Firing a 10.0gr. pellet at 800fps generates 14.20 foot-pounds of energy. Use the following link to determine which velocity and pellet weight will meet your requirement the best.

    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

    Winnie,
What you are looking for is a "Spring Air Piston" air rifle. Gamo is a good brand made in Spain(had a Gamatic). Obviously Weirach is (I've got 2 a rifle and a pistol(HW-80 & HW-45) that I picked up when I was stationed in Sicily) a good brand. If you can try and find a switch barrel (.177 & .22) air rifle. The reason I say this is if you get it in .22 at the power limit you're limited to, then later get the .177 barrel you will have a lot more velocity with the lighter .177 pellets in the same rifle.
    I know what hunts you.

I don't think switch barrels are available over here Sarky, I'm still researching. The money I have available is pretty much restricting what I can buy. It's now against the law to order via the internet! You have to purchase in person So I'm going to Gilders on friday and see what they've got.
I'm still leaning towards the one in my previous post, the price is about as high as I can go and the reviews seem to rate it.
As you state Rick, it's the hunter behind the gun that finally determines how successful the shot is. Knowing your gun and it's limitations is what it's all about. I do remember some stuff from my shooting days!

Now about pellets.....I am seriously confused on that one!

Are you prevented from snaring or trapping in the UK? I was just wondering if that was an option for you.

No, snaring and certain traps are allowed. Strict rules apply to them too. If I liked Ferrets I'd use them, but I had a nasty expereince with one of my Dad's hobs when I was little and have never got over the fear.

Well, I must be going bonkers, I saw a post about the "kill squat, sissies, losers," and other terms of endearment, and it seems to have disappeared. Tsk, Tsk.

Anyway, I my experience, a whole lot of dirty low down, bean sprout snatching, lettuce munching, apple tree girdling rabbits, have headed for the rabbit heaven, to the 760.
So ya shoot what ever you want.

rcw, I saw something, then I went back and it was gone, sort of and I'm not sure who said what, or why?
I was just wondering what was going on?

Any way, like I said, y'all shoot what ever you want, my Crosman is a quick and quite, leave in the garage, get rusty, kill rabbits that are harming my garden. (city)

The Benjamin much nicer, stays in the gun case and is closer to a real tool, but a whole lot noisier.

Okay, okay. I'll fess up. I did make up the quote on RWC. But I know in my heart he WANTED to say that. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

You are right by the way...someone could read that and think you really said it. I hadn't thought of that so I do have to apologize. Your point is well taken!

Having lived in England (Manchester) for a while, I too would recommend Gammo and yes protect the red squirrel, the grey does lots of attic damage and chews on wires that causes fires over here.

Apathy Tripwire, the biggest problem here is apathy. Most folk have been spoon-fed and coddled by the govt for so long they're incapable of individual thought. And I don't blame the people you know for not coming back!
