I must agree that newbies do get hammered. I think it's just because some of us old farts who have been here forever just get tired of answering the same old questions over and over again.

But, that does not give us the right to hammer. As far as the intros, really does not make sense. Most don't use their real names and can basically make up an internet persona.

I've seen many posts from newbies when a mod. or old fart replies stating that the newby needs to do a search. That is all well and good, if they have been on the site and know how to use it.

I come here, if I can help you out I will. If not, then I keep my mouth shut and read other posters suggestions. Also, I've found that some newbies have some pretty darn good ideas. Kind of makes the old dogs think........Hmmmmmmm..........do I need to learn a new trick?

I know sarge is just a lovable fuzzball, but newbies don't know that. If, when I got here, I had been hammered like Justin Case got hammered by sarge, I would have said screw you, and never clicked on this site again.
(I know you're a good guy, sarge, but I gotta call this like I see it.)

that's what we keep Ken around for, to keep you in line. BTW, Justin has proven to me that he has the "right stuff" to survive. He didn't get his panties in a bunch and lam on out of here, he stayed and showed what he's made of. Remember, the 1st, & most important thing in Survival is attitude...having it, that is, not giving it!

Why not keep those around just to be fair?
Many of us old timers did re-do our intros using Ken's format. I think it's really a good thread for anybody seeking advice. My response is usually this: "Intro 1st, info 2nd; fair enough?" If they decline, fine, but I'm out of it. That's not hammering anybody. Now if I get a "Self-proclaimed expert" who's obviously a "legend in their own mind," then they're fair game; remember, it's the "Wolf-Pack," not the "Pussy-cats."

having thick skin with society and being socially suave has nothing to do with having good wilderness survival experience. and telling somone that they need to have thick skin doesnt excuse pouncing on them. if anything is in their bio they really dont need an intro anyways. i agree that you dont have to give them anymore info than they give you or answer their questions if they dont post an intro so if you dont want to dont reply and those that want to reply do, but after you ask them the first time to give an intro you should let them be and decide how much you want to answer and ask questions on a need to know basis

The easiest way I have found to look up an intro is to look at a profile page. Click the tab labeled statistics. Click on "Find all threads started by......". Go to the last page. If their intro was the first thread they started, it will be at the bottom of that last page. If it was soon after, it will be near the bottom.

Sourdough's are a little different. His posts have gone through a merge that may have jumbled things a bit.

It only goes back 500. He has started more than 500 threads.

That's fine..but as long as we're bringing up intros it would be nice if everyone had them easily accessible to everyone else.

Yeah, we had to cut it off somewhere. Otherwise, mine would have gone back to something like 1412.......BCE.

Mine is accessible through the steps I gave you. If you can't find somebody's intro just ask em. Most people don't mind.
