Default Just watched a Bald Eagle kill a Hare in the front yard

He was smoooth. The Hare hid, but the Bald Eagle just lighted, and waited, and waited. Then when the Hare came out, the Eagle fell out of the tree in the opposite direction, made a shallow, arcing dive and came up behind the Hare in a glide just inches off the ground. Death was quick.

    You lucky thing!
A couple of years ago I watched a female Kestrel attempt to take a songbird in my garden. She failed miserably. The in-run was perfect, the dive precise, the little bird saw her at the last minute and and flew off.The Kestrel couldn't brake in time and ended up in the bottom of the hedge in a most undignified position.

Well, that's to be expected. The BALD Eagle was clearly upset because he had no HARE.

I bet that was one heck of a show!

Before long, that kind of stuff will be outlawed......I mean, the eagle waited, and then killed an animal of another breed. That's obviously a premeditated hate crime.

Just another form of fast food. I watched a hawk take a dove in mid-air. Pretty amazing stuff.

Did the eagle have dinner on the ground or did it fly off with the rabbit?

That must have been a sight.
They are really a magnificent bird.

Watched a pair of Northern Harriers, one caught a field mouse, swooped straight up, then dropped it, the other one caught it in mid air. (learned later, after looking it up, it's a mating thing, new meaning of fast food date).
I wanted to get up out of my turkey blind and holler, "Don't play with your food"!

later in the year you'll see them flying off with the food, when they've got young 'uns to feed.

Dang...I knew those jets could take off, or land just about anywhere, but I had no idea that they were that agile. LOL

LOL, that would be the planes and they are aptly named.
Ever seen one (plane) put thru it paces up close? WOW

Both Harriers where riding the thermals along the peak of the ridge, about 5 ft off the ground, seemd to be hovering in place till Mr lunch mouse showed himself.
Then it was off to the wild blue yonder.

We had a Coopers hawk take a white pigeon in our very small back yard here in town, the neighbors watched it eat for 45 minutes. I wish I would have been home to watch it make the kill. It sure made a big mess to clean up.
