    Exclamation Booby Traps

    Booby Traps

    Avoiding the Traps of Others

There are three main reasons that people set out traps for other people. The first is that people who are up to no good have something to protect. The classic example here is the marijuana grower who sets up booby traps to discourage you from finding his illegal fields. It is not beyond imagination that urban gangs would also set up traps to protect their sensitive locations inside a city environment.

The second reason for setting up booby traps is when someone is on the run and the trap set is to slow down pursuit. This has been the basis for countless Hollywood movies. It is not found too much in real life because it assumes that the "bad guy" on the run will stop and take the time to set up a booby trap. It's possible, but not very probable. It's more likely that he'll just keep running.

The final reason people may set up booby traps is because of mental illness or a criminal mentality such as exhibited by the middle-eastern crazies who hate everyone in America. Once again, the booby traps will be set primarily to avoid detection until their "big" plans are completed. These people, more than the two groups first mentioned, have access to the most sophisticated equipment to make these traps. They have time to set up complicated plans and the skill to make it work.

And here you are, Joe Citizen, trying to get by and take care of your family. For your efforts, you inadvertently wander into an area that has been booby trapped by someone else. You have several problems: Recognize the traps; avoid the traps; disarm the traps; escape and evade out of the area.

will there be any discussion about identifying the traps? I've hidden traps well enough, that the kids would set them off in the yard. a well hidden trap is gonna getcha if you don't know to look for it. What do we look for? How do we avoid them?

A Sherriff's Deputy that I'm acquainted with (we growed up together) informed me that the part of town on "the other side of the tracks" is booby trapped in some places where old houses burned down and weeds and mimosa, chinaberry, sumac, etc have taken over and he said they do NOT chase people into that area anymore. An officer was nearly killed last year chasing a perp through those weeds by a trap.. plum near cut he's head off..

I'm going to have to take to task here.... Another reason to set "Man Traps" is to protect yourself, your campsite or your home during civil unrest especially when you don't have enough personell to stand watches all day and night. If we ever have a breakdown in society, then all bets are off and i'm defending my neighborhood by all means necessary. The bad guys won't play nice, you can depend on that.
    I know what hunts you.

I cant remember exactly when , but a local man ( dallas metro area) was having problems with break-ins in his garage so he fixed up a shot gun and wired it to the door, long story short , a kid broke in got killed homeowner went to prison. Just my 2 cents.

Around here ID'ing the traps would be key to catching "boobys". Posting signs near or on the traps that say stuff like; don't touch!, hands off, keep out!, private property, no entry!, etc. etc. Or you could be real obvious and say "don't pull on this rope" or "leave this stick alone, it's mine!".

My personal opinion is if a criminal or would be criminal gets hurt on your property or attempting to damage or steal your property he or she deserves what they get.

Of course proving the person was attempting wrong doing and avoiding innocents would be another matter entirely.
