    Default Got Wood?

Here’s some of the driftwood I picked up yesterday.

Not sure about this piece, but it feels like a heck of a club when you hold it.

I’ll turn this into a walking stick. From this side it kind of reminds me of a horse’s head.

But turn it over and it reminds me of a bird. Maybe an Egret or Pelican.

This is one I picked up a while back that reminds me of a Cobra.

See, there might be something wrong with me because I really want to say something nice about the pictures of the driftwood...you take great pictures and the shapes you found are really neat but then you include the wood for scales and....ummm....rats, I forgot what I was talking about!

Ugh! Seeing that you just FOUND that beautiful drift wood makes me wish I lived closer to the ocean! Can't find beautiful wood like that out here. If I had access to stuff like that I would be in 'art heaven'! Cleaned up and sealed they would make BEAUTIFUL tabletop clocks!

I would be happy to drop off a pile of it on my way to my cousins this coming deer season if you are still in PA.

Really! Your not very far out of the way and the back of the pickup is usually empty heading down. You said you were still close with a few of the "guys from school"..it would be nice to have a drink and say hi.

I hear ya. If I didn't live so close, and have family that I WANT to see I wouldn't go back up there much at all. Jeremy's grandmother died a couple weeks back (Skillings), so I went up for the viewing. It's changed a lot!

neat wood. are you thinking of making some carving knives and doing some whittling? I'd love to see you bring out some of those natural shapes.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. Helen Keller

I've made one. I want to make some out of cut nails like Ole WVC talked about. I haven't done any real decorative carving before, so it'll be trial and sand I guess.

Nice find, looking forward to finished creations.

Used to pick up drift wood on the Wisconsin River flowages, most got tossed after a while.
Made a lamp once, but even my mother didn't like it, butte ugly.

Some people can look at a piece and see whats waiting inside.
I guess I'm not one of those people, but really admire those that can.

Given the title of this thread, I just have to say that I'm horribly, horribly disappointed.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

With Benesse's knife and boots picture, and Winnie talking about her knickers, this is not at all what I expected, when I read the thread title!
