Thread: Survival & fears

    Default Survival & fears

    Survival can invoke fear.
Whether this be Vertigo, acrophobia, claustrophobia or even nyctophobia, it can endanger your mental state, and therefore effectiveness in the bush.

It is important you conquer these fears, however insignificant they are.

    1. Analyse the fear - Is it logical? Is it based on an earlier experience?

If your fear is based on a childhood experience, think when and why it happened. Face it, you are probably stronger physically and mentally than before. This mixed with a basic survival instinct will pull you through certain situations.

    2. Thought - Don't think negatively. Do not even think "i will not die", instead think more positively: "I will survive". Think about what you will do when you get back into your zone of comfort.

    3. You are a bushcrafter. You now how to deal with these situations. The human race is one of the most adaptable ever. We have developed machines and new materials. WE WILL NOT BE STOPPED BY FEAR.

    Hope this helps,
all feedback appreciated, as is my first guide.

How about letting your fear lead you to the introductions. When you get there take control of your fear and write an introduction.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

Yeah, an introduction would be in order for anybody offering advice like this in order to be taken seriously. Think about it. For all we know you could be a young student in a school overseas.

Fear is what keeps me alive. Fear is what makes me turn back when the waves are to rough, the bears to plentiful, the cold to painful, the visibility too restricted, or the turbulence to violent when flying, and about 300 other fears, Fear is my friend.....

I fear NEEDING to survive in a situation that requires me to, because well...who doesn't? The idea of leaving your home and your comforts IS scary. IMO It's how you DEAL with this fear. I'm the type of person that may dwell on the possibility...but if something bad DOES happen I just deal with what I need to deal with. You don't have TIME to be frightened when a bad situation arrives, you just have to act. Thankfully I'm one of those people. I'll crash after things get calm...but when it matters, I'm happy that I am able to keep my wits about me.

That my friend sounds like solid survival advice to me , follow your fears. if the hair is standing up on the back of your neck thats a good indication you should be doing that .

Just curious since there is no information in your profile. What is your background and source for these pearls of wisdom. Specificaly what book did you read to come to these conclusions?

Since as you mentioned "as is my first guide." a frame of reference would be needed for me and many others I would think to judge the usefulness of the information you have offered

I see fear as a tool to wake you up being alert and aware, Its the panic button that will do you in.
