Symantec sucks. Comcast Security Suite sucks. Spyware Doctor couldn't fix it, and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal is a waste of time.

I got slammed AGAIN last night when I was on the Forums, just about to give Poco a hard time about something or other. Every night, around 8:00 and 11:00, that friggin Trojan would attack. Usually, spy-doc would stop it. Not last night. Nope.

My regular computer is in the hospital today. I'm using an older Dell from my Rhode Island house, at least until tomorrow. The thing's so slow, I think I'm gonna' turn the television on.

Are you running high speed modem as in cable? Always on? Is so, what version of AV are your using? You have to have a firewall with always on. If you don't have a firewall then the rest of the stuff is almost useless. I'm running Norton 360.

I just lost my desktop (brand new) to that darn virus again. It will be a week before a tech can remove the virus.I'm glad we got a laptop as well!Otherwise I would be unable to get on the web at all!! It would not be appropriate for me to say on the forum what I would like to do to whoever is responsible for this virus!! As soon as I saw it on my PC I shut it down to limit the damage it could do. that is twice in one week. One PC each time. I am hoping that my laptop is better protected.

Someof those trojans thingies are hard to remove. I have three on my machine that Symantec has quarented(however that is spelled). Others you have to go to your anti virus site and get instructions for manual removal (no, not a hammer). Good luck

Yes it did. Trend. If you ever think about blowing $40 on my ad vice is to take the$40,dip it in kerosene and light it. You'll get better use than by buying Trend AV. (At least by burning the money you will produce some heat)

SOME routers have built-in firewalls. Most do not unless it says specifically that it does, and then it has to be updated almost daily, same as AV software. You might check with your ISP about using a proxy server.. that bounces your IP all over the place and makes it harder to target you (supposedly). Maybe CanID will post some better pointers. MajorGeeks (url left out) solved my problems poco I can pm you the link if you want to try it yourself. If it's okay with the mods I can post the link here for anyone else wanting to try removing it themselves.

One major thing that everyone needs to do is completely uninstall SunJava and all it's patches and updates, etc. and completely reinstall fresh, up-to-date Java. some part of the bug was hiding in my old Java and after removal, the worm was still on the PC, and thats why I got it a second time. Flushing restore points is also a good idea for everyone.

I've also read about an igoogle exploit going around with overlays and redirects.. watch what you click on... I'm not using google or photobucket for a while...

that sucks poco, I almost got Trend micro when I switched to kaspersky from norton.

Kaspersky has a software firewall that is fairly configurabe, but I don't know much about it. I'm just starting to learn about firewalls, networking and such at school.

I've actually learned a lot about computers, but it's hard for me to remember the stuff if I'm not practicing it almost daily.

A year ago I had my firewall and network configured so almost nothing could get thru, if I did that now I probably wouldn't even be able to get online. LOL!

I'm back! And guess what.......

It wasn't a virus or the Trojan that killed my computer, it was the damn Comcast Security Suite that put it in the hospital.

I learned that my Symantec isn't the run-of-the-mill over the counter Norton version, but rather some souped-up corporate network version that's a lot more powerful. It's been on this computer since I got it and a friend and I loaded the software.

So, about 2 weeks ago, Comcast sends me this mailer telling me that I should download its Security Suite because it's just the best. The flier says that it's compatable with Symantec (yeah, right).

Well, the Trojan I was worried about was in quarantine in Symantec, and that damn Comcast program kept trying to transfer it and quarantine it itself. Then Spy Doctor got involved and kept stopping Comcast.

Comcast was working so hard to do the unnecessary that it was using over 90% of my memory. Then, Comcast was also fighting with my Window Washer at the same time, and

BECAUSE OF COMCAST I DIDN'T HAVE A COMPUTER AT HOME FOR 3 DAYS!!!

Come to think of it, this thing was working just fine UNTIL I loaded the Comcast Suite and then it started to slow down.

My computer techie removed Comcast and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal routine.

For now, I'm just gonna' run with Symantec and Spy Doctor, which seem to work well together.

And now, I'm gonna' go look at what Stargazer and 2dumb wrote about me. They both called me and told me they were gonna' bust my chops here, and I'll bet that Rick joined in the party as well. Now where is that thread..........
