    This is a great reminder, Oly. Especially now in the winter months. I've been an advocate for the Kid Smart smoke alarms for a couple of years now. And it's not just for kids. I have a profound hearing loss in higher decibels and I simply can not hear a smoke alarm. That probably sounds strange given how loud they are but it's true. I can easily hear the Kid Smart alarm, however. We have four of them in our house. Two upstairs and two downstairs.

    There is also a second problem with kids. Training. If you don't train your kids HOW to react to alarms of any kind they simple won't. We've sat down with our grand kids, talked about what to do in case of fire. Set off the fire alarm and walked through various exercises to simulate blocked exists and to leave the house no matter what. We also have a designated meeting spot away from trees and tall objects (think lightening since lightening can cause a house fire). Their reaction needs to be automatic.

    With all the industrial noise I have been around for years I know exactly what your saying Rick, so far I can still hear the alarm but not very well and often wondered If it will wake me up.

    Thanks Oly, I have a high freq hearing loss also. All those beeps and buzz, snap, crackle and pop caught up with me.

    I found that a real good way to check your smoke detectors is to have DW do a "self clean" on her oven on the coldest day of the winter (below 0) and have to open windows.

    3 out of four worked and one has died.
    Replaced all batteries, and need to replace one detector.

    I have a 9 year old daughter that is deaf. We had a cochlear ear implant placed in one side. With out the device she is 100%. The other side she wears a hearing aid, she is 70% deaf. That said, I got a smoke detector with a strobe light that sits over her bed.

    It has never failed to wake her up when I test it. Poor kid. Lol



    Edit: She wears neither device while sleeping.
    Ken has helped me out so much with legal stuff, I need to keep track of it so I can pay him back. I will be placing a 'score card' in my sig as a reminder.
