sjj, glad to see your bear is up!

This whole thread seem sorta hinky to me.
So, is this a "Never Mind?"

Don't know. We've helped PB with a few projects in the past, but for this one it doesn't look like he did any work or research before asking here. Kind of hard to give an opinion on a school project if no work was done on it yet.

Sounds like someone's taking the easy way out. Just MPO.

    Ok, now I'm confused!
The professor is the client, or makes up an imaginary but believable client that we must please. However the "client" changed my project. It will be discussed in a different thread since this one got off on a bad start- on my part, not you-all's.

I think a good engineer should collect information where ever he/she can, so I don't have a problem with you asking for help. In fact you would be a fool not to ask.

I agree, it would have been nice to fill in the other info from the start.

During a HVAC class, retraining as an "older student", one of the projects, test, drills, was to find parts for presented problems.

We were allowed to use any means to complete the task, and given a vast array of catalogs, phone numbers, names of customer support persons from various manufactures, etc. Of course it was a limited time drill.

The drill was to impress upon all those that were participating that one of the most important parts of any request were:

    1) What is the question to ask? (It's broke, don't cut it)
    2) Do your home work and provide as much information as you can.
    3) What do you think is the problem?
    4) Why do you think that?
When your homework is done, press on.

I actually had to start a new thread to cover it, since its a different design now. Look for it in the "Portable surgical pack" thread.

    Thanks as always for responding

For a survival or outdoor pack, I would also think about basic body needs, not only gear. Water, food and first aid are obvious, but sleep, hydration and energy management matter a lot too, especially if the situation lasts more than one day.

I keep simple wellness reminders like this as well: wellnessguidehub.com Not as survival advice, but more as a basic checklist for taking care of yourself before any trip or outdoor activity.
