Okay, bought two of those "topsy turvy" hang your 'mater plants upside down thingys. Got them hanging from the porch eave. Like them so much, went out to get more to plant some peppers in. Anyone else tried these things out?

they were sold out of those things here, so my neighbor is doing the same thing with 5 gallon buckets from home depot

Too expensive,I plant alot of tomatoes,and there is not enough yield from one plant to justify the expense of those for me,however if you have very limited space,they would definately be better than buying from a store.

MM,you can find buckets much cheaper at flea markets or garage sales,or as WE does,go to local FF places,they sometimes will give them away for free.

5 gallon buckets are free (usually) at you local bakery/grocery store with bakery/etc. The icing comes in 5 gallon buckets and they just toss them.

I tried it once. Didn't do very well. Keep them out of direct sunlight or the bucket will tend to heat up and stress the roots.

I have doen topsy truvy bags last 2 years - not great but I onyl tried tumbling tom variety and Ive been told that you need to try several varieties.

I have made a couple of my own **********- as Rick said they are free. Im going to try a few different varieties in them. Ive also invested in an upside down *********** - looks great on the patio - but am waiting for the summer.

I like the hanging plants as a kinda a "whoa, that's cool",kind of thing, but I use 5 gal buckets, more media.

By mixing garden soil/compost, peat moss, with packing peanuts it keeps the buckets lighter.
The bucket has a 3 " hole in the bottom, covered w/cardboard, to keep media in.

I fill the bucket with my media, put the cover on tight, turn upside down, plant a small verity of tomato, cherry, plumb, cracker jack etc.
When they get going good, I tip back right side up, take off cover, and hang by the bucket handle.

I use impatiens(flowers) planted on the top of the bucket to serve as a watering indicator. When needing water, they wilt, but will perk right back up when watered with out harm.
So I just watch the flowers, but they do take a lot of water.

It does provide decoration in different parts of the yard that's edible, leaving more room in the regular garden.

Crash, I'm liking the containers, make it easy to keep weeded, mix soil for different plants and generally keep thing neater.
Example carrots do well in sandy soil, ours is clay, so a mixture is important.
I have a couple of container with lettuce, started indoors, then carried out for salads.

As far as fencing panels go, real good idea, but then again a PITA to store for ME
Hense the folding stands.
All this garden stuff kinda breaks up the cold and snow I looking at right now.
