I got caught in some quick sand in Fort Mead, FL. I was around 8 or 9 and I had seen many Tarzan shows. I grabbed onto this twig that was hanging over it and my brother ran to the nearest house that had someone home. The guy told him to have me just walk out as it wasn't anymore than knee deep. LOL

Went to walk through some water to clean off and cut the tip of my big toe off on a broken Coke bottle.

There! That right there is what I'm talkin' about. That is one unholy creature. It might as well be T. Rex walking across there. 'Course, any animal that likes bacon can't be all bad....right?

That is actually a Nile Crocodile with a wart hog. But, it is making its rounds in chain letters as a gator in Florida.

I call the crown around the ears horns and they are more pronounced on crocs. Also crocs have gnarly snouts and gators are prettier.

Snopes hasn't figured it out yet. Think I should tell them?

I'm with Rick on this one. I didn't see any "Do Not Feed the Animals" signs as if they can read. I may be old and tough but all that extra chewing would prolong the agony.

I would worry about the little creatures more than the large ones. Pigmy rattle snakes, diamond back rattle snakes, cotton mouth's, were more of a problem than anything when I lived there until the 70's. Grew up near the Myakka river and it is very beautiful. If you get a chance and want to see what Old Florida looked like, take a trip to Sarasota, to the Myakka State Park. It is cheap, and you will see just about any type of wild life that Florida has to offer in a most natural setting. There is a good canoe trip, on the Peace river that can be taken for next to nothing, with a shuttle not far from Sarasota. Enjoy your trip.

Yeah, the Peace River runs right near where I got caught in quicksand.

Rick, I have seen some amazingly beautiful gators. I took pictures of one that had a completely unmarred hide in colors that you could not imagine if you hadn't seen it. A pink side on the belly.

South Florida is its own animal and most say it is a harsh environment. But, from here till May it is a true paradise. I'm heading out in the morning for Bear Island Unit in Big Cypress National Preserve. But, we have to take the long way around to stop at the Oasis Center and register the quads...

We know you can live longer than 2 minutes. It's 2 minutes and 23 seconds to be exact. Good luck!!!
