Using what you carry
Last night I gave a coworker a ride home.Frank lives near a few of the Downtown bars.Knowing that another worker was hopping the bars we decided to look for her car and bust her chops for a while.As we are looping the block I see what looks like a garbage bag in a cross walk.So I slowly pull up to it only to see its a lady flat on her back.I get out and call to her but get no responce.Right about then I dialed up 911.I look closer and see blood on her jackets hood and down her face.Thinking she may be dead and not wanting to touch her I walk back up to the jeep and gave the air horn a workout.She moves a bit and slowly gets to her feet.Now I can see blood everywhere on her.The back of her head is red and she is bleeding from a gash over her right eye.Her speach is slured and she has no clue as to where she is or how long she had been there.
All I could think of was that I may have just missed a hit and run.While waiting for the police and medics I gave her the blanket that I keep in the jeep.By the time the police came she could rember her name and her address.She told the police that she was walking home from a bar but could not remember what time she had left.She told them that she thought she had slipped on some ice while crossing the street.I guess it could account for one of the gashes But I am not too sure it would have given her both.Who knows.
The one thing that I am surprised at(well maby not for the area) is the lack of caring by others.This was on Union st in New Bedford.At 1:30 am there were people passing by us leaving the bars.But no one stopped.After we had been there for about 10 min or so a couple walked by us and sait that we should bring her to the ER.They were laughing and joking as they said it and keep on walking by.But I am sure that if it had been someone they knew or it had happend to them they would be irate that no one stopped to help out.
I need to hit up the thrift store for another jeep blanket.It could of been worse and I am glad I stopped and was able to help her.Just another reason to keep some gear in the truck.
