Default Have you ever used Fluid Film?

Fluid film is a spray on anti-corrosion treatment that John Deere uses on their equipment when they ship it overseas. It is fabulous stuff when it comes to stopping rust and even works pretty good at removing rust. I heard about it about 10 years ago and bought a can to use on my guns. I spray it on and wipe the gun down with a rag, it has worked very well, especially on the guns I carry duck hunting. My 870 has been wet so many times that it should be a rusted hulk, but the only rust problem I have with it is on the bolt which runs through the stock. You should buy a can and give it a try, it can be found at most John Deere dealerships.

Swamprat, Thanks for the info. I looked it up, sounds great, I'm definitely picking up a can. At a reenactment in York Town VA, I watched my musket rust in the salty rain. So much for paste wax.

Good stuff. It sounds like it performs in a similar fashion to stuff that I use. Strike Hold - http://www.strike-hold.com/

I've been using fluid flim for about 20 years or so. I use it to store my guns. Unlike most preservatives which are petrolium based and will damage your wood stocks, this is lanolin based as is even good for your skin! I need to find a source as i am down to my last can of the stuff.

Winnie WD40 was designed as a water displacement chemical. It is a poor lubricant, but is excellent at cleaning and removing water from anything that has been soaked. However, it should be wiped off and a lubricant and/or anti- corrosion protection added as a final step.

Although Fluid Film was developed as a anti-corrosion chemical it is a fair lubricant but it must be applied in a very fine coating or wiped off after application.

A lot of the guys fishing on the Louisiana Gulf Coast are using it on their fishing reels to prevent corrosion. Salt water is a bi&^ on a good fishing reel.

I've never heard of this. It sounds like it might be worth finding! Will it leave a build up on your guns?

Thankyou for the clarification, not that I need to use it, but it's nice to file away just in case!

Will have to try that on my surfcasting reels. I've been rinsing them down and oiling them but the worm gear on the bait casters is very susceptible to rust.
And there just happens to be a Deere dealer down the way.
    Thanks!
