    That's beside the point

I knew boy at school very much like you, he was lovely, a great friend, but trouble followed him like a dog and that dog very quickly became attached to everyone in the viscinity

I posted about swinging and shock loading his rope. Busting out the drivers window was stupid as well. Besides keeping out the elements it also is a barrier between you and someone trying to get your ride. I would have busted out a passenger side window. That would give you some swing room and of course lock the doors even if the windows busted out. Might give you time to get a second shot off...

My son came in and was talking to me. Did I see this guy put a pry bar in the door and then bust his shoulder through the door??? He even talked about force multipliers as tools. Yet, he used a lever as a what? LOL Damn sure not to gain mechanical advantage.

Still, I will watch it again...

I wouldnt act unless he was too close for comfort. Why give away my position and waste my rounds if hes just passing by. Oh and it would be my scoped 30/30!

I have also had about enough of these studly dudes with Spec ops backrounds showing the average citizen how to "survive". My wife looked at me and said, "if I gotta climb up buildings and jump down elevator shafts to survive I guess Im screwed". Shes right.

What I'd like to see is a show based on a family of 4 (husband, wife, 2 youngins) like me. Lets see how they can come up with a good survival show based on that situation.

No....They need to come up with a show the demonstrates how to protect your home by using the remote control and how to prepare survival food with the microwave. Heck with that pounding wheat into flour crap.

Anyone ever been in a sewer before? They might be different in a large city but the ones I've been in you can't move like that,if at all.You would have to crawl or duckwalk to move in them.
I too would pick a library, but one of the old heavy stone masonary ones. Makes a good fortress.

I think I saw in a movie once that if you just burn copies of the tax codes, local building ordances and law books you would have sufficient fuel. Besides who would miss that kind of stuff

I too would hit the library, me and my wife actually discussed this part of the show in some detail. Basically after you think for a minute, you'll realize that most of the population probably wouldn't hit the library. People have become to accustomed to getting online to find info, and most people's second choice would be a book store of some sort (barnes and noble, used book stores, etc..). I think it would take a while for most people to even find the local library anymore... next time you're shopping or stop at a gas station just ask some people where the closest library is, and you'll feel a lot better about the library choice. I only say this because I was on my way to a linux user group, that just happened to be at a library on the other side of the city from where I live, I stopped at 5 different gas stations 1 of which was directly across the street from the library and nobody could tell me where it was.

The part of the show that got me was when he decided to eat the cans of food. If you didn't know where your next meal was coming from, would you really open all of the cans at once, in my head some rationing might be in order. Also, while he was eating and going off into his being lonely speech, his sterno was just burning away next to him, once again I'd think an easy fire source would be a good thing to ration.

The part I did like about this show, along with all the other shows that're going on during this "apocalypse week" the history channel is having, is that it did get my wife thinking quite a bit more about the what ifs.

Having grand kids, you know where all the libraries are. The library has some great programs for kids. At least around here. You can check out DVDs at the library, too.

I have been watching "doom and gloom" week off and on and I swear some of the stuff is propaganda.
But as with anything else, it's up to you if you want to watch, gleen anything usefull, laugh/get pizzed at the rest and move on.

BTW my latest BOV is diesel, purchased with the idea of possible manufacturing of fuel.

I flipped on Apocalypse Man last night. What garbage! What was the swinging from the bridge stuff? How many folks do you know that would do that? Find another bridge or get a boat if you have to cross. For cryin' out loud.

He pulled a tire iron out of his pack and proclaimed what a great tool it was and you should carry it with you. What pish posh. If you need a tire iron get it from one of the abandoned vehicles.

When will Hollywood make a survival show that is both entertaining AND fact based? Sheesh.

From the sounds of it, I'm glad I didn't invest any time in it.

Rick, I was talking about the show to my helper and I said the same thing about the swinging on the bridge. I would just take a boat.

One thing I did notice about gloom and doom week, They just had to interject global warming everywhere. And this after the exposed conspiracy of the pro global warming scientists(sic).

I changed the channel, on a couple of those shows, for that very reason.

Oh, sorry. I'm a bit out of breath. I've been busy running around and climbing up things. I didn't have an elevator shaft to test my escape and evasion skills so I tried the pulley on the barn. I've made a note that I thought I should pass along. It's a good idea to either tie the other end off before you jump out and grab the rope OR have a weight tied to it that weighs slightly less than you. In my case, that would be the John Deere tractor. Did I mention the ground is frozen?
