    LOL...

The money dried up to save the rainforests, so the drum beaters found another cause...

    'Global Warming' sound familiar?

When the global warming debacle goes away, there will be some thing else for these nuts to come up with and worry about

There will always have to be a fabricated crisis to make them feel good about themselves

The only thing that would fix this is if they had some thing more important to fixate on

Such as surviving some thing really catastrophic, such as Yellowstone going off, or some thing of equal value to bring reality into perspective

Obviously the twin towers hitting the ground didn't do it

The rainforest is being flattened so Brasil can grow cane to make ethanol.

And export it to the U.S. The world's largest rain forest country exports ethanol to the U.S. and our imports from them continue to increase.

The exportation of Brazilian ethanol to the U.S. reached a total of US $1 billion in 2006, an increase of 1020% over 2005 (US $98 millions).

It is partly thanks to "these nuts" that there still is as much wilderness left as there is to practice "wilderness survival" in. But no worries, industry and consumerism are hard at work to shrink it ever more.

I agree to an extent with you wildWoman...

Problem is, they don't know when to stop

This country wouldn't run if left to these "nuts" overall ideals

There has to be a happy medium and they like the Taliban, won't stop until they have every one back into the dark ages

Some of the things most of these people most despise are also utilized in their every day lives i.e. electricity, processed food, metal products, plastics, petroleum, wood products..., and the list just goes on and on...

It's just a little hypocritical if you ask me...

It's sort of hard to paint a group with a common brush, Elkchsr. There are extremes to every issue and each person, like the the issue, should be examined on his or her own merits. I happen to believe that global warming may be occurring (I also know I might be wrong), the fact we should be living much greener, animals need to be protected, and Crichton is a money grubber. But hey, that's just me. I also believe in free enterprise and a business making a living. I think both can be accommodated if a business operates ethically and responsibly toward it employees and the environment. And...you can write my name in during the presidential election if you like. Anyone have a baby that needs kissed?

Your right Rick, only problem, with group think though, people have a tendency to vote or lean towards the most vocal and radical of their particular cult... er... culture

I happen to believe that global warming may be occurring
Your right, but it started about 10-12 K years ago and not in the last few as the modern media would have every one believe

I think both can be accommodated if a business operates ethically and responsibly toward it employees and the environment
We would both absolutely agree on this, there has to be a happy medium, big problem is, most people of the world think Government and Big Business have bottomless pockets and with the aid of lawyers, should be fleeced to the point of zero profit

Problem with that is, taxes get raised lawyers pockets are lined and products go up, who is it that actually pays for it in the end...

Sure it feels good, but at what actual cost to every on

I don't necessarily agree with the first point. The most vocal perhaps but not the most radical. When money buys air time, it also buys public opinion. That point is probably true and something we probably agree on. However, I'm a life member of the NRA and don't support a lot of what they represent.

I do agree on your second and third points, however.

In the end, it all boils down to money

Let the money dry up on any of these causes and the drums will cease with people finding other agendas to chase JMO...
