    A good article finally, without all the negative baggage that usually goes along with this topic.
    Wasn't aware of all the other resources and maybe it's a good thing. All this prep stuff can easily become a full time preoccupation.

    I agree Bee, too often being prepared is considered nuts, especially over here. I have neighbours who are completely unprepared for power cuts, let alone anything else!

    IMHO there are probably a lot more people like the woman described in the article than there are the compound building-teotwaki-here-comes-the apocolypse types that "survivalism" is generally associated with but most are just quietly going about doing their thing.
    some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

    That was a very well written article. Cudos to Jessica Bennett for taking the time to research her article and not portray those who do plan as the lunatic fringe.

    This is a great deal like the cold war mecca of the '60s. Back then everyone wanted to build a shelter in their basement or back yard and stock them to the ceiling. The economy is just this generation's cold war.
