Rappelling, no. Wrap around hips for friction and hold on tight?
Rock climbing, yes. Keep your body close to the cliff, use your legs more than your hands, then there are some tricks you can do with your hands. But I can't do inverted climbing. That sh1t freaks me out.

You can take lessons at REI and Dick's. My daughter has had classes at both of them. It is a good and safe way to learn. As Sarge said... you have to do it to learn. The guides taught my daughter alot.
