    Default Attention All Smokers

Close to half of the states if not more have passed laws requiring Fire Safe Cigarettes. My state is one and I just got my first carton. They taste horrid, my throat hurts. My lungs became really congested. These cigarettes have Ethylene Vinyl Acetate in them! The pack should have FSC on it somewhere, but you'll know quick it isn't what you were smoking! I for one will either be rolling my own or quitting. Do a search on the web there are thousands complaints!!!!! I feel betrayed by the manufactures and the laws of my state! The only added warning is "FSC" on the pack!
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

Don't feel betrayed by the manufacturers - they are probably either mandated by law or concern for a lawsuit. When Bubba passes out drunk on the sofa with a lit cigarette politicians will feel the need to protect us and lawyers will feel the need to sue the cigarette manufacturer, beer company, furniture maker, mobile home builder, etc., etc.

    No hard feelings Crash,

The way I see it the manufacture had a responsibility to let consumers know they were mandated by state government to put durn carpet glue in my smokes! I saw nothing of this in the news.....As for the state and the state government here. You cannot smoke in a public place even outdoors.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but cigarettes contain more than just Ethylene Vinyl Acetate. They have tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide and benzene. Formaldehyde is the stuff used to preserve dead animals for disection. Just my two cents here, but that doesn't sound like something I want to be inhaling. As much as i disagree with smoking, I do agree somebody should have said something about putting carpet glue in cigarettes.

i'm glad i spoke american spirit.

i know smoking tobacco is unhealthy, and i can feel much of the effect it has on my body, but i hate to tell you, real, additive free tobacco doesn't make me feel ill at the time of smoking it the way most of what i've smoked does, and it tastes better by about a mile and a half.

Is it that American Spirit is exempt from FDA and State Legislature?

tobacco with no accelerant additives already self extinguishes.

i started rolling my own using pipe tobacco when the fsc came to ky. the cost is about 75c/pack and the taste is much better. however, pipe tobacco and rolling papers will soon also be heavily taxed and fsc added. if you are along term smoker, it might be a good idea to stock up now

if i am still a smoker next year i plan to grow my own tobacco. i don't smoke a lot now (5/day at most) but i do enjoy tobacco and i like to stock pile it (you know, in case of a zombie apocalypse). i have smoked pure tobacco before and it does extinguish itself but it is some pretty harsh stuff.

when tobacco is processed by the big companies it is: soaked in a large vat full of liquid, the liquid is drained off into another vat where all of the deadly chemicals are added then sprayed back on the paper/leaf concoction on a conveyor belt before being shredded. it is one hell of crappy process.

i am not sure how one dilutes or prepares natural tobacco for smoking. i guess i will need to do a little research here.

another great idea, for those who plan to continue smoking and have some garden space: grow your own [though try to find TMV resistant varieties]. even growing it does wonders for the suppression of many garden pests, and it's not as hard to cure as tobacconists would have you believe.

    barefoot:

at it's most simple, but without leaving it harsh, it basically consists of slowly air drying it in a warm, humid environment, lightly misting it to keep it from drying completely, but without getting it wet again. you can render it more mild by giving it a brief soak in warm water and then drying it back to a curing moisture content. this washes some of the alkaloids out.

Ah yes. Makes me laugh that we must be so helpless that we need the Governement to keep us safe from ourselves. Same with helmets and seatbelts. So we get told what to buy and what we must use but the bank big wigs can spend millions without the Governement regulating them. HA HA HA ain't it great?

I hear you. Don't get me wrong; I love my seat belts and helmets, but I don't think I should have to pay Uncle Sam a fee for deciding not to use one, or having to go at some time without one. It's not his noggin.

Well it certainly wasn't because banks were required/pressured to make loans to people who could never afford to repay them. That's for sure.

    What's the world coming to?
Next thing you know they'll force you to quit or fine you if you don't.
Whose business is it how you choose to die as long as you're not poisoning anyone else or burning your house down with your family in it?
If the family doesn't mind why should we?

Great debator. Nice guy, too. Was my rep until the last redistricting. I still run into him at some civic or political event every couple of years. He still remembers my name from when I was in office 15 years ago. Good politician. Just totally confused and a terrible Congressman. That's all.

Mine actually. I don't care to pay taxes because some welfare goof contracted lung cancer from smoking. We can say it's their choice but when I have to pick up the tab through taxes I draw the line.

That was the whole basis for states suing the tobacco companies.

    You are correct, sir!
I was just being facetious. Based on your reasoning (which I share, btw) let's take the whole idea a step further and start taxing obesity every laborious step of the way. I don't want to pay for that fallout either.
