    Default Firesteel Handle

Yesterday I put a quick handle on a firesteel to make it a little easier to hold while using.

Nice job. Did you epoxy the firesteel into the antler?

Yes. The hole I drilled is a slightly more than 1/2" deep, then epoxied the firesteel into it. I also put a little epoxy under the attaching knot to hold it in place.

    Crash,

Good timing! I have ordered 10 5"X3/8" rods for Christmas gifts for the men in the family. I will be making deer horn handles for all of them. On a side note my little one lit the fire lastnight....firesteel the back of her knife and raw cotton ball and poof! She smiled ear to ear. I have also made here a fixed blade with about a one inch blade with no point. She has a sharpening stone, a fixed blade and a firesteel in her possibles bag so far. She has shown complete respect for both tools! She has done so well the wife doesn't even seem nervous. She is 6.
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

WOW! I am impressed. That is very good that she shows respect. There is no way I would cut my 5 year loose with a firesteel, Our pastures would be burnt down!!We'll see what difference a year makes.

That's a good idea. I like the primitive way it looks.

Its a point of preference. It may be a little big for those with small hands.

No, it's perfect! Crash gave this to me last year in the Christmas exchange and it has been my fire starter up at camp sence. The kids can get the woodstove going with it as well (or better) then I can.

Hey, Larry4545, why don't you handle your way over to our introduction section and tell us a bit about yourself?
