    OK,
I see you Folks with no Norwegian Miner linage need some enlightenment here.
Pasties are a "Stew Pie", "leftover Peroggie", or a meal in a Pastry.
A pie crust type shell filled with meat, turnips, onions, potatoes, vegitables.
In days of old, The silver miners up North carried these into the mines for lunch.
They heated them on a shovel over a lamp for a warm meal.
Some Darn good Eating for sure!

Mmmm pierogi. I absolutely LOVE pierogi. When I was in Poland, I ate them as much as possible.

The Food "Pasty" in plural "Pasties" is pronounced ( pas-tees )
Not to be confused with a dancers attire pronounced ( paste-tees)

Ahhhhh....now we're getting somewhere! I, like Rick, was thinking about that dang thing getting stuck on my tongue. I could just see me walking around, talking like one of those people that just stuck a friggin' bolt through their tongue.

Just like the Cornish pasty! Cornish tin miners ate them the same way. Another useless peice of information, the pasty crust was rolled to make a sort of "handle" The miners would eat the filled part and leave the "handle" to reduce their heavy metal intake. Clever eh?

The picture pasties looks like what we call Fried Pies here in TN. If it is then that is one of my favorite sweets.
