How many of you carry binoculars with them on hikes and outings? How many of you have them part as a survival kit?

i don't generaly carry them. it probably wouldn't hurt if i started. i don't believe i own a pair anymore. i do have a decent [read: not good] rifle scope, but i don't currently use it as i don't have a rifle with a mount right now.

I do, I have a cpmpact set in mine and my wifes BOB and a real big set in my rangs bag also have a nice WW2 German set in my truck. Must be a getting old thing, as the eyes get older I am more reliant on optics. [I] have been thinking about getting some night vision glasses but the price on the gen 3 is crazy, anyone use them?

Sometimes, depending on how I am hunting. Today, I left them in the car as I was crawling around in the thickets. What the heck would binos be good for there? The critter is either, not around or on top of you.
I keep a pair in my DPM clothing for when i go out hunting for general use, But i rarely use them and the ones i have arent really made for the punishment i put them through so i keep them at home mostly now
Don't take them with me very often. I have two pairs but use them mostly for watching the birds, hawks and squirrels around the house.

I have several pair, but keep a compact pair on my belt for survival situations mostly. Waaay back when I was Owl Girl's age I lived with my brothers and my best friend and his wife, my cousin in a farm house that was right next to the border of a State Park. This was when we had that "wild hair" to go gold hunting in Alaska. Every day I'd go out in the yard and scan the horizon with my binoculars and one day I saw a bunch of smoke right about where the boundary line was next to the Park.Seems a farmer had a brush pile burning right near the fence and left it all by itself. When the fire trucks came to put out the fire that had crossed over into the Park he' showed up cussing them all out for running over about 6 rows of corn to get to the fire area some distance away from the road. They pointed out the burn path from his brush pile fire that led right into the Park area and he shut up.
Never know how or when those things might come in handy!

have two pair but generally don't use only for bird watching
I picked this little monocular up at a fly fishing shop. It's light and powerful plus waterproof. I paid $40.00 but I've seen them as low as $20.00.
I keep a rubber coated 8\40 under drivers seat and a mini Nikon in my kit both have seen hard use and proved to be very helpfull.
I carry an old bushnell 7X35 and have a compact 10X25 in my survival pouch. The extra weight is offset by their usefulness in the bush.

Hey, PGV! Does that mono have a brand name? I did a google and didn't find that particular one.

I don't carry binoculars but I have an old collapsible telescope (guess you'd call it that) my grandfather passed down. Don't really carry it on the trail unless I'm sightseeing

It looked like it was metal and it looked pretty bomb proof. Most of the monos today are plastic or some synthetic material. I liked the looks of that one a lot. (drool).

I'm in the market for a monocular unit. Nothing too high powered, price is the key for this one. Can I hope to get anything decent for around $50, I am thinking 10 power. I have been looking at cabelas, brigade quartermaster and US cav. Anybody especially happy with theirs?
Thanks
PGV is gonna get us a deal, Doc. He's making the call as we speak. "Yello? Jot 'em down store."

i have some binocs with me
right now, i have a generic 7x50
but someday,
i'll break down and get a Bushnell Falcon 7x35
and hopefully, seperate the 7x50 into two monoculars
I found these two web sites for the monocular I have, it's made by ATM. I hope this helps.
