So, we've had this amazing autumn this year. Almost summer like weather right up til last week. Well, last night the weather started catching up. A fair little dump of snow and the temperature dropped several degrees, although still warm for the beginning of December.

The blower fan switch went out on my truck, and I'd put off taking it in because the weather has been so warm-- so I was leaving the house to take it into the shop this morning. I'm sure some of you can relate to this and hopefully have a chuckle. Picture this,I'm standing at my back door, WonderMutt waiting patiently and I start digging in my pockets....let's see...magnesium fire starter--great, minimag light--great, wooden matches--great, cellphone---great, cigs and lighter--great, little Buck knife--great, house key--check, great, .32special bullet from deer hunting last week---ok, whoops, hmmm seem to be all good to go here except "WHERE THE F*** ARE THE TRUCK KEYS??" Start over, putting each item on top of freezer lid as I go through the pockets again.

Yep. I have a ring with survival dodads on it. A number of times I've tried to open the door with it. I just shake my head and start digging for the keys. Of course, you have to throw in.

(talking to dog) Well, what the *@#$ are you lookin' at? You don't even HAVE pockets.

One way I kinda solved this problem is by having everything keyed alike.

I have two keys - one for buildings and the other for my vehicles.

For the cars, it's fairly simple. The last time I re-keyed was for my truck; it ran $175.00.

For buildings (the houses, the office, etc.) I use one master key. Every lock also operates on a separate key, and you can have sub-master keys as well.

A while back, I used a Dom system. Today, I'm using a "high-security" Medeco system. Oh yeah - I have spares very well hidden - indoors and out - just in case.

The other week, I got pretty ticked off, that I had pushed the "Un-lock button" for my truck, 4 or 5 friggin' times, and the door was still locked......then it dawned on me.........if I want to get in the shop, I'll have to put the key in the door, and turn it.
