Just read this article about a lost hunter, and an Air Evac helicopter crashed 30 minutes after someone found the hunter. All 3 crew members died, pilot, medic, and nurse.

1 person gets lost, 3 pay the price, not to mention the loss their families will feel this Holiday season. I fully understand when people are lost while out in the outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, that sort of thing. What I don't understand is why many of them don't take Survival training, a Survival kit, ETC.. Maybe that sort of thing should be manditory before we let people go out into the Wilds!? This is also why I get so upset at guys like TBWN! Stupidity also can cost innocent lives!

The stories we hear every winter up north about skidooers in trouble never cease to amaze me. They generally go like this: guy in wintergear gets on skidoo and heads out on a 50km + trip in cold conditions. Brings along no spare gas, snowshoes, extra clothing, axe, shovel, sleeping bag, food or even metal cup to melt water. Skidoo craps out at 50km + from closest human habitation. Search and Rescue efforts get launched the next day or so while freezing skidooer is hopping around, praying and trying to keep warm, then gives a tearful interview on the radio after the rescue.......ticks me off to no end!!!!! If you're already tearing around the country on a machine, WHY would you not pack the gear to be able to walk out in case your sled breaks down??? WHY???

Didn't that very thing happen to an NFL player or an Olympic guy? I don't remember who it was but I think it was an overnight rescue just like that if I recall.
