Default Hold up on that dog Doo Doo

I was just thinking. If we should make a fundamental change in the way important decisions are made by our elected officials. By utilizing existing technologies we could move towards a true democratic process.
I would suggest using Virtual Private Networking (VPN) http://compnetworking.about.com/od/v...Networking.htm with an encryption token (example : VeriSign http://www.verisign.com/authenticati...FUlo5QodWw1lmw)

Set up a program by which registered voters join a VPN via the token (probably would be a cost to the voter for the token) and when a vote comes up, or an important decision is to be made a registered voter would visit a designated site and weigh in on a poll with their opinion. This would give the esteemed legislators near real time feeling for what their constituents are really thinking. Each “question” would be posted with associated documents (yep probably huge documents) would have a finite voting period (perhaps 72 hours) prior to any legislative vote, and then it closes. The results are “read only” to all parties and accessible by all "read only"(no need for a token or VPN access). And if your representative does not comply with his / her constituents it is instantly apparent and the record would be always available for review.

I am sure there are a few gaps in my proposal, but it is a germ of an idea to bring the “cretins” out into the light and make them accountable. And would also stop folks from whining, they have easy access to the system.

Pal, I think you are working under an incorrect assumption.

I don't think we are having a problem with the politicians knowing what the people want. I think we have the opposite problem. People (in general) don't have any idea what the politicians are voting on, or how it will affect them or this country. (And some just don't care.)

I still say that these bills should be written in language that the average citizen can read and understand.

I also think that "News" agencies need to report what the bills mean, and when the vote is taken, they need to report how each politician voted.
If they do not, or if they slant or mislead, they suffer great consequences.

I also think all "pork" should be reported on, with the list of who asked for it, and who benifits from it.

Rick, If what I have read is correct, a lot of the health care stuff doesn't really kick in until 2013. You know....after the November, 2012 elections.

That being said, do you think people are going to figure a lot of things out, and get really ticked of....oh....I don't know......say, in December of 2012??? (Que Twilight zone theme song.)

Perhaps, but I do feel that sinse there is no immediate action, they ignore the public will in favor of the political expedience. This idea would get "people in the game" and gives instant feed back on "those peoples " actions. As for the media taking a role, they have distorted things enough. As for those that just don't care, tough c**p for them. I don't want us dumbied down for them. And I do believe that shortly after this starts (I am a dreamer) you would see the language being simplified, because "they" would actually have to read them! Well, the pork would be right there, on the net for everyone and their brother and sister to read!!!!

Bring the cockroaches out into the light.

LOL....I have said before, that we should test politicians, to verify that they have read and understand every bill that they vote on. And I mean put them on trial for dereliction of duty, if they haven't done their job!

The reason the health care legislation won't take effect until 2013 is, in part, because it will take that long to amend it (i.e. make it even worse) and to write the 20,000 pages of Federal Regs (Code of Federal Regulations) necessary to implement it.
