you are talking about nylon pantyhose...right? From what every woman i've ever known has told me " the damm things are hot in the summer and cold in the winter" .
I would guess that it may trap air if worn under polypro long undies but if I have polypro why am I bothering with pantyhose?

I have been known to wear them a time or two.

They also have a workable use as an expediant belt for your car if yours breaks and you don't have a spare, will at least get you to the nearest parts store

I have a wool pair of underwear. Besides, when you find a pair of panty hose large enough to fit me I think they call it a balloon. Of course, I'd supply the hot air.

I wonder how well they would work to keep my wool pants from itching?

    Forget panty hose.
Merino, angora, alpaca, cashmere wools don't itch.
The absolute best long underwear you can get is Ulfrotte marketed in the US under the WoolPower name. Merino wool terry cloth weave. Comes in 200, 400, 600 and 800 gram weights. Expensive but worth every penny.

the girls and i use silk long johns.
when working in the forest during the winter i wear patagonias' (they are a bit thicker then silk but are very warm) and wool pants (light or heavy, depending on temp).

I cover my shotguns with panty hose. Keeps the dust off very well. Not sure I would wear them though. I have plenty of other clothes that I would use first.

nylons are great for alot of things. try to stretch them and break them.

youll come up with an idea or two.

plus, they are pretty much free if your girl gets a run in them.

Even if pantyhose worked, I think I'd pass. No place for junk.
I'll just stick to my cotton waffle longies, thanks.
They're more than good enough for a northeast winter and they are practical, affordable, and plentiful.
I've never understood this need for high tech, high cost gear. If I was going to spend the money, I think I'd opt for wool. (I also ride my bike in a t-shirt, cargo shorts and hiking boots, not pretty spandex...)

Years ago my wife and I participated in centuries. 100 mile bike runs. You won't do one of those in cargo shorts, I promise you. Either that or you'll have a lot less skin in the game....if you know what I mean.

I tried pantyhose ONCE. Trouble is I get gas and wearing them blows my tennis shoes off. It's embarrassing, besides I keep hearing banjo music. They are worse than wearing old long johns with a trap door.

Ooooh!!!! Now I've got this mental picture of Coot sitting around the still with the boys wearing panty hose. I'll be all day gettin' that picture out of my head. I need some nyquil without the junk.
