Why would they recommend NiCads in that list when Nimh has much higher capacity?

I don't know. Why would somebody make their first post here instead of here?

it is interesting to read rebel's list and compair with what we take.
one thing is sure, we take much less (of anything)
often we only have one gun and two cans of bear spray for three.
    it works for us.

Interesting lists. I make a list in an excel spreadsheet, and then modify for season, lenght of stay, or not to overlook something in the future.

To me those lists lacked, one and all, one very important piece of kit: The kitchen sink.
Survival is not about surviving AGAINST the nature. It's about surviving WITH the nature.

You can't go in to nature, nature is not a place or an object. Nature just is. You are living it.

WRC1969, I think your list seems more like a camping list, similar to mine, than the "prepper lists", that were listed, (need truck to carry).
Don't get me wrong, I copied the lists for reference and thank the posters for valuable information.(always looking for a "improvements").

I guess the desire to "be prepared for anything" is a great motivator, but, hey guys, how much can you carry.

I am bad about keeping a lot of "stuff" in the vehicles, and on my "bug in shelf", both at home and the cabin, and although I am confident in my "preps", I also know that, what I need "now" is the one thing I didn't pack.

Interestingly enough, while on our rip to La, to visit the kids, the first morning we got up to find that they were out of coffee, (don't you just hate that!).

Well, as luck would have it, I had my "heading up north, for deer hunting, camping in a motel, but they don't have a big coffee maker in the rooms, enough to have a cup and fill thermoses",
one pound of coffee in the truck, so another disaster was inverted.
    (note to self, re-stock).

Point is , What does one CARRY (in a pack) for, say a week long, CAMPING trip, in say, spring?, summer?, fall?, winter?, assuming a Non- Red dawn scenario.

These would be the lists I would really like to see.
Thanks for the lists, and "carry on".

.22 rifle and 100 rds of ammo
Fishing rod and reel, small tackle box.
    Knives, folding, filet and Buck
Tools for above, sharpener and oil
    Camp saw/ hatchet??
    coleman globe lantern, mantles?
    propane?
    5 pak of lighters

    Compass and gps?...map?
    Maglite, mini-maglite
    extra batteries

4 man dome tent or 8x12 tarp/ plastic.
    Wool Blanket
    foam mat
old green frame backpack, day pack and fanny pack.
    Rope and string

taters, onions, rice, flour, sugar, corn meal and carrots.
    Cooking oil
Sage, black pepper, garlic and onion powder.
    Big SS Pot and skillet
    plate, bowl, fork and spoon
    Spatuladle
    Cutting board
    1 litre plastic pepsi bottle
    2 1/2 gallon plastic jug?
    Bleech?

    Shampoo
    toothbrush/ paste
    hairbrush
    TP?
    Towel and washcloth
    Centrum a to zinc
    Advil
    Basic first aid kit
    Tweezers, needle, mirror

several changes of clothes; t-shirts and jeans
    raincoat
    Flannel
    Sweater
    multiple pairs of socks
    Boots and tennis shoes

Depending on how much of each I took I think that's about 100 lbs. of crap. I'd make 2 trips.
I revised my list to fit in an external frame backpak, Academy Broadway Jasper model. Here's the list! Tell me what you think. Should I add stuff? remove stuff? Get bent? This is based on a 1 person personal kit. All this stuff packed comes up to just under 70 lbs. including 1 gallon of water.

My goal here is to start taking 3 day to 2 week camping trips and slowly modify and hopefully eliminate items from the pack. It's winter here and the temps are running from 20-40 F in the day and 10- 30+ at night. I'll be travelling 1-5 miles from a main road in an area I'm extremely familiar with.

I know some things might be missing, but this is what I currently have at my disposal. Please advise if you think something crucial is missing and make specific recommendations.

    Thanks!

List is dependent on the trip I am taking. Time of year, length, people, purpose, mode of travel.

From memory I will give it a shot for a typical 1 week canoe trip.

    Canoe
    2 paddles
    PFD
Standard emerg kit required by law(rope, whistle, flashlight, bailing can)
    1 painter rope

    Large Pack-Ostrom Wabakimi Pack
    MEC -7C Cygnet Sleeping Bag
    Marmot 0C/0F Sleeping bag liner

*Note on the clothing: Spare clothes are in case of a dump in colder weather or a mud bath, but other wise they are mostly unused. The idea with the night clothes is once all the camp chores are done, I wash up and change into dry clothes every night. Next morning I put on the previous days dirty or wet clothes.

    G-Man 21" saw
Topo Maps strapped to out side of pack

60 litre Food Barrel - Ostrom Barrel Harness
I am currently on a phase where I just pack the basics then create a meal. I used to carefully pre-plan every meal and have each day in separate bags. May go back, still experimenting.
