    Default Why, people....why?

We are having a pretty good nor'easter, here. Wind, rain, high tides, etc. This is a fairly low, flat area. Especially around Norfolk, and Portsmouth Va. Any time we have a lot of rain, or a strong north east wind, (and I mean, a good thunderstorm, will do it.) there are quite a few streets, that flood. It's not at all un-common.

Now...with that being said.....once again, this morning, the news is full of people driving into the flooded areas, and stalling their cars, people trying to turn around in the streets, and they always interview the angry woman, yelling "Someone needs to do something about this! How am I supposed to get where I'm going!" (Hint...two blocks over, isn't flooded...go that way!...or Stay home, stupid.)

Then, of course they have the footage of people going to the store, to buy food that they can eat, when the elec. goes out.

I had to re read your post. I sounded like you were describing New Jersey. I live in towards the Delware River portion of NJ (west side) the office i work at is on the extreme East coast of NJ (maybe 1/2 mile from ocean). During a nor easter, I know which roads are going to be flooded. And guess what? I avoid them!!! I must be some sort of genius ( well maybe not). But as you say, there are huge traffic back ups at the flood points, while the fairly clear alternates have almost no traffic. Mmm whats up with that?

I always get a bit annoyed at the folk who complain. They're always spouting on about something should be done, or there should have been more warning. Yet these same people would be the first to moan if local taxes went up to solve the flooding problem. Some days you just can't win. BTW you OK 2Dumb?

Oh, heck yeah! In fact...I'm kinda hoping that the power goes out, so I'll have an excuse to rotate some older generator gas. LOL It would also give me a good excuse to cook on the grill, and if this rain would ever stop, I could even cook on a fire! (It's been raining for 36+ hours and they are calling for 24 more hours, of it.)

Oops....I'm not supposed to be excited, am I? LOL

    Thanks for asking though, Winnie.

This is probably a poor time for me to be reading this but I don't have much else to do while I wait for the tow truck. By the way, how deep does it have to get before your car floats? Just curious.

Bad news, Rick. Most cars don't float.

After many years of careful observation I discovered people are stupid. Really really stupid.

I guess we'll be getting rain soon....

When I was in the EM buiness, the 911 Center worked for me. I would go back there to relax. I immediately knew when it started raining although that room had no windows. The MVA calls increased. "Stupid is as stupid does, Forrest" (Mrs Gump)

my question is... if they want something done, why are they depending on someone else to do it? why don't they do something. oh, yeah.. thats too much like work. how many times does it need to be said, if you can't see the road, don't drive on it. I wonder how many people wear their eye masks while driving? When it rains and town floods, I just stay home. everything I need is right here. you'd be surprised how many folks get their cars flooded because they wanted to go get a burger (even though theres a foot of water in the burger shop...duh), rather than cook supper. Lazy and stupid. It's like they think the world revolves around them and even though theres a friggin hurricane coming, nothing matters except what they want.

did I mention I'm antisocial? and a coldhearted @$$? personally, I think people should have to have DNA tests and pass an IQ test before being allowed to breed. I think folks should be bred like dogs.. for specific purposes and to eliminate poor gene pooling. eventually the world will be run by stupid people, mark my words.. it's already started in the U.S.

sounds a bit harsh, but I've felt this way for years. So far I've been proven right.

    Oh, good one, Ken!

We have the similar effect here. But it's with ice and snow. Every single winter, when the first snow falls, the news is "winter surprised the drivers". And then they tell that anything between ten to fifty cars have driven off road and crashed in some tree or rock or light post.
When you watch out of the window and see snow, drive more carefully, or even better when the weather forecast tells that it'll snow next week, change your winter tires on. You'll have to change them on in two weeks anyway, cause of the law! This happens every single winter!
Survival is not about surviving AGAINST the nature. It's about surviving WITH the nature.

You can't go in to nature, nature is not a place or an object. Nature just is. You are living it.

just goes to show stupidity is universal. here in seattle where, you know...it rains a LOT you would think people would be really good at driving in wet conditions yet every time it rains suddenly its like no one has ever seen it before and they dont know what to do.

Hey, if it weren't for folks like that, how would we know how deep the water is or how slippery the roads are? Test it ourselves?
