Thread: a thought...

    Default a thought...

why is it that the son's and daughter's fight a war that they probably had no say?

Should wars be fought by the older generations? I can do a good job and have less to loose.

That's the way it always is Reb. The servicemembers never have a say in what their mission will be, but rather stand ready to complete it once assigned.

I see your point Rebel...You can bet I'd rather fight for my children than have them fight for me....or for their own future..

If they sent the politicians then the enemy would probably throw their hands up and surrender while screaming "We are screwed!!!".

When you guys talk about "the politicians" it sounds like you had absolutely no ownership in electing them. Like they just got beamed down from Mars. Or were installed by a totalitarian government.
Let's face it, these politicians are here because YOU either voted for them and misjudged, YOU voted for someone different and lost to a majority or YOU just set back and didn't vote at all.

Just try harder next time and quit kvetching already.

Good post, Benesse. I'm not certain who they would have lead the country since "politicians" aren't allowed. Or just let us wander aimlessly or controlled by mob rule? Hmmm.

To the OP, I think you're pretty idealistic when you are 19. A bit better able to be molded than some of us old guys. At my age I'd spend most of my time on patrol just going to the bathroom and the rest of the time trying to figure out what I did with my gear.

Rick, you are not to far off point. As a fellow that served in combat as a 18-19 year old and more recently as a 50 year old, and some in between, I can say there is a good reason to have the young folks serve. Now I am in no way trying to be a warmonger, I am writing on the assumption that combat is occurring for whatever the reason. As an 18-19 year old, I was invincible and did not have physical cares in the world. I was resilient, and could workon a few beers, and 2 hours sleep for extended periods. As a 50 year old, my body needed a constant flow of Aleve and coffee as well as more sleep to function. I and many like me were able to do it, but what a "payback" the body demanded when downtime was available. THere has to be a mix of young and old to make sure that asmany as possible of our young grow old. Since we have a volunteer force right now, our young troops do have a say (especially this far into the conflicts) in wheteher they get involved or not (enlist or not). So I think that it always have been and always will be the norm for the young of any society to bear the brunt of service during times of conflict

If old men and politicians were forced to fight the wars they start there would be few or none. IMHO

I do. Actually 2 states. I can only vote in one, but I try to influence people in 2 states. I live in N.C. and work in Va. Both are important, to me. (Not that the others aren't........you know what I mean.)
