    Default Hunker down for Ida

Looks like the eye is gonna come right over the top of us, or to our west, which means we are in for some heavy rains. The town I live in was built on a Mayhaw swamp. I think the same city planners that set up New Orleans must've set up this town. anytime we get more than 2" of rain at a time, town has to shut down.
I happen to be on high ground, (all my rain flows back toward town lol) so I'm not worried about flooding, BUT all 'going to town' is gonna be out of the question once the rain starts.
As long as we maintain electricity to keep the freezers going we'll be fine, and since we are on a rural line that runs from somewhere out in the country, even if power is out in town (and it usually is) we should still have juice.

anyhow, I thought it would be a good opportunity to remind anyone in the path to double check bug-in bags, and batten down the hatches around the house. I'll be working today until the rain starts, then squaring everything away here. It amazes me that people still live in places near town that flood every time something like this goes on... and how many of them seem to be caught unprepared, like "we didn't know there was a hurricane". Last time it flooded here, people woke up in the middle of the night and stepped knee-deep in water... (whats up with that? the forecast said 10" of rain was coming???)
I don't even watch TV and I know theres a storm coming... I'm gonna be ready.
    Y'all take care

We're getting the outer bands of it now. The bulk of it is supposed to be tomorrow and Wednesday. I guess I better bring my poncho for the Veterans Day Parade.

On the other hand, they rarely need explaining when they're funny.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Looks like Ida isn't going to pan out into the big storm that the experts were fearing. Overnight we got a few wind gusts. Not much rain so far, but maybe enough for the garden (I hope). It is making landfall a long way from here, near Pensacola and Mobile, so we are far enough away that our damage will be limited to unripe pecans. Hopefully I can get back to work tomorrow.

Hope everyone over in that area is doing good. Watch out and stay safe!!

As the storm turns to the east, they are forecasting 8-10 inches of rain in our area.

The joys of sandy soil. Ten inches over a couple of days, while might create an inconvenience in areas with poor drainage, is usually not a wide spread problem.

Now they're talking about us getting 4-6 inches of rain, up my way, out of this deal.

Like crash said....around here, that's just an inconvenience.

the thunderstorms we got a few weeks ago were much worse than this "hurricane" Ida.
They shoulda called it "Idano", 'cause "Idano if we got as much bad weather as they said we were gonna". The eye is scheduled to be right over my house around 7 am, but looking at the radar all the rain is gone north.
If everyone fared as well as we did (my garden is plenty wet) then it was nothing more than a reminder to be prepared and check your supplies and equipment. They call it a Hurricane, I called it a good watering

That reminds me of a previous discussion we had regarding fishing bait..
I left my raincoat in the yard after graining a hide.. they aren't much good when all the water is on the inside of them hahaha.
