    Default Json from New York

    My name is Json, (pronounced Jason) and I am 30 years old. I do not look my age though. Everyone tells me that I am somewhere in this range 17-21.

    I live around New York City and I make websites for a corp. in Manhattan. I have no survival/wilderness training ever. The closest outdoors that I got to experience was a couple of summer camps a long time ago. What got me interested in wilderness is... I don't even remember. I remember researching igloos last year. I found some beautiful photos of a lighted igloo and northern lights and that further piqued my interest. Then I started researching what to do to get there. I was only able to find one outdoors snow shelter school up in Vancouver where as a group, you'll get to hike out and learn to build an igloo and spend the night in one. As I'm from the east coast, location is an issue.

    I don't have a plan to make this happen as I have no survival experience. I signed up for this site to read more as part of my research and view the photos in the forums.

    tobacco, alcohol, firearms, money, gambling, snow, jazz music, and girls.

    Stick around. You'll probably learn quite a bit here. Then, gradually put that knowledge to use and develop some skills and gain some experience outdoors, and you may eventually want to visit Manhattan once in a while.

    I worked on your island quite often in the 80's. Nice place to visit, and you know how the rest of the saying goes.......

    ive never slept in an igloo either but i think i have slept in snow caves.
    i think you can find videos on you tube on how to make igloos.

    I've seen the youtube videos on snow shelter/igloo building. Checked out a book on it, plus the U.S. Army survival manual shelter building. I've also watched Nanook of the North, which has a part where the main character builds an igloo in about 1 hour... I remember someone/somewhere mentioning a novice will take 6 hours. I'll want to go with a group first and learn how to do it. And then go back out there one day and do it myself...

    i made an igloo out of soccer ball sized snowballs when i was a kid. it was up to my chest and could only fit a curled up kid in it but it took all day to get that many snowballs lol. i know thats not how the Eskimos do it, they make make them out of cut out snow bricks but the snow wasnt the right texture for that. did you ever try to practice making a little one? thats an interesting way to get into this stuff.

    It doesn't snow with enough accumulation where I live. But you're right, I've had enough reading and watching. It's time to go out and get my fingers wet...
