    Default Hiya from Michigan

I found your forum while researching some info on my Tramontina Bolo.
    (Pict, You are Da MAN)

I'm a mid century man. Too young to be old, but too old to be young.

I grew up in Indiana. I Served our country's Navy from both coasts, then settled back here in the great state of Michigan.

After grabbing all the training I could while enlisted I came out with a electro- mechanical degree. So, I are an Engineer (or so they call me) not really documented as one, but they keep wanting to call me one.

I spent all my youth in the woods down by the creek. Never played a team sport as a kid other than cross country running and swimming. My senior year of high school my school librarian gifted me with my own copy of the book "Wildwood Wisdom" because I had continually had her copy checked out for the whole four years I could.

I've rekindled my desire to play in the woods again in an effort to pass down my passion and skill to my two lovely grandkids.
I've been living a prepared lifestyle for so long you kind of think ya got it all figured out, yet it kind of surprises me at all that can still be learned

Strange, an internet forum revolving around simple skills and living in nature on my computer. I really do look forward to all that can be learned here, as well as what can be shared.

    Thanks for putting this together.

Hello and Welcome to the site!
Just call me poco or Mel. My username is way too long!LOL I know some survival skills, some wild edible and medicinal plants, and some basic woodscraft. Many good folks here, that will be glad to help you out in your quest for knowledge.(This is something I copy/paste to all introductions Please don't be offended when you see it on someone elses introduction. It just saves me a little typing!!)

BTW thank you for your service. I'm curious, Why McGyver? Do you whip things up out of seemingly innocuous items, Making something no one would suspect?

First job out of the service I managed a small (garage sized) sensor assembly plant. Most of the prototype assembly fixtures were fabricated by me, my knife and a hot melt glue gun. The ladies that worked for me started calling me Mcgyver. The series ran while I was in the service, so I didn't know the meaning of the name for a couple of years. (I don't watch much TV) Then one day in a hotel room the show came on and I had a good laugh. It has kind of stuck since I am still fabricating things using whatever is at hand and the tool at my side.
    No- I don't have a Mullet.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

    Beo,
There is no greater solitude than that of the Tracker in the forest, unless perhaps it's that of the wolf in the wilderness.

Well GI, I was hoping you were at least old enough to remember the taste of that stale pale ale with the foam on the bottom. Do they even make that any more?

Don't know. I haven't been around Iron City for many, many years. Maybe someone from the western PA/Pittsburg area might know.
