Yeah that will do it too. But you see it still stems from the Northerners.
Alaska to Florida, for how long, who knows...
Honestly, it was just a joke.. My point was that is their definition.... And like I said I still would go out... I was hiking in. N.H. 2 years ago with warm clothes and snowshoes.... 10 degrees F. Snow 5 ft deep. And no real long distant visibility.... I wasn't wandering lost in woods I didn't know..... That's just silly.. My original point was that a blizzard can be a beautiful and fun thing if one only changes their perspective..... If you'd rather talk about wilderness on computer that's cool and your choice.. My choice is to go. Enjoy it every chance I get!.. Seriously your gonna die if you go out in a blizzard? Yeah its possible but far from assured! If u prepare properly and use the brain god gave you , you will be fine!... I've done it tons of times and I'm still here.

The only easy day was yesterday.
Preparing for winter up here in Northern New York involved getting your day to day vehicle stocked for the almost inevitable off road adventure. Literaly off road, stuck in an 8' snowbank, waiting for someone to pull your sorry butt out. I have stocked my car with roadflairs, waterbottles, flashlight, jumpercables, extra windowwash and antifreeze, blankets, sleepingbag, socks, sweatsuit, Dickies winter overalls, a shovel, a hatchet, munchies, and a fire starting kit that I threw together. As I have a 100 mile commute, through an impressive lake effect snow belt, it is only prudent to make sure I have what I need, before I need it. Which is of course the whole point of this forum.![]()

I must have seriously misunderstood his prior post then.... I was under the impression that he was saying even an experienced outdoorsman wouldn t survive being outside in a blizzard... My apologies
I really was just tryin to let him know I was only teasing him about Canada

When I was a Whippersnapper, we walked two miles to the School bus stop, in three feet of snow. and it was UP HILL both ways coming & Going.....But at least we were allowed to take or guns to school in those days.
No Night Shade, I didn't say wouldn't survive, I was only trying to make the point that a lot of inexperienced people read these posts and even an experienced person can get killed in a blizzard, I wasn't guaranteeing someone would. I know people it's happened to and I can't think of any more difficult weather conditions for a SAR team to have to look for someone who's lost. Just sayin...err on the side of caution.
There may be a good reason why I have a different perspective on this, square mileage of Mass: 2,000 sq miles, square mileage of Manitoba: 250,946 sq miles (just over half of it without roads)
and no need for the apology, hey we all have to say what we have to say, that was pretty funny actually.

some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Personally, I HATE summerand LOVE winter!

Everything I have posted is pure fantasy. I have not done any of the things that I have claimed to have done in my posts. I actually live in Detroit.

Got our first snow this morning. Just flurries for now. Late start compared to last year, but I'm actually ready for some snow.

Norwegians learned everything from Finns too...
Why they immigrated? Well, in 16th century there was constant wars between Sweden and Russia, we happened to be the battlefield. There was also starvation due bad harvest, some more wars, later in 1808 Russian occupation, the the time of autonomy, some more starvation. Crimean War which included some British naval operations at coast of Finland. Then there was the independence, Finnish civil war, starvation, 2nd world war, rebuilding, 60s when small farms no longer could hold up, and finally the present day of Nokia and Linux.
Survival is not about surviving AGAINST the nature. It's about surviving WITH the nature.
You can't go in to nature, nature is not a place or an object. Nature just is. You are living it.
At least you broke that vicious starvation cycle. That one is kind of a drag.

Aye, but that circle on the other hand led to some culinary innovations, like making bread from tree bark and such. These days it is sold to central Europe as "health food", as it certainly doesn't make you fat...

Mike Myers may have summed up Canada the best...
"Canada is the essence of not being; not English; not American. And a subtle flavour - we're more like...celery."
