LDS Preparedness Manual

Hey everyone, I figured I would post this in case anyone hasnt seen it.

I'm not a religious person by any means, but the LDS Preparedness Manual is one of the best I've come across. It's 223 pages in PDF format, and its certainly well worth the read if you can get past the religious stuff in the first page or 2.

I've gotta ask - is this legal? People load music to and from free file hosts and file sharing all the time. Often it is illegal. I know I may be showing my ignorance of such things here, but whose permission was given (if any was needed) to distribute this? If it's legal - cool. If not - I don't want to see any action taken against this site.

Very nice, but the person who came up with their 96 hr kit is clueless. There is no reason to carry that much crap.

Just remember that the article/paper/book was written by an individual and not the church, and that the opinions expressed within are that of the author, and not the church. Also the church does not say anything about a 72 hour, or 96 hour kit. They recommend a 3 month supply that is gradually built up to a year supply.

But, I read some of it, and it is a pretty good article/paper/book. Lots of good tidbits. Thanks for posting.

FinallyMe, I gotta call you on that one, page 17 specifically says 96 hr kit. Most of it is very good.

I think what he is saying is that while the book that has been compiled is calling for a 72 hour or 96 hour kit, the LDS do not.

That is right crash. The author of the book calls for a 96 hour kit. The LDS church doesn't mention it. In other words, the author doesn't represent the church.

If your into food storage, there's about a hundred pages on that alone.

a 96 hour kit for many people i know would be likely to entail inflatable matresses, a couple cases of keystone, electric hair appliances, the generator to run them, etc. it's all relative to the realism of your concept of need.

96 hours i could be happy with a gallon of water per person, warm weather clothing with underclothes suitable to be worm by themselves, a means to start fire and a minimum of food. possibly some other usefull, but not ultimately nessecary oddments.

on the other hand, if you are in an emergency and can't find water in that time, or actually *need* food, you're in a pretty bad emergency. most of the rest is a comfort, morale and safety margin issue.

Just a minor point of clarification. The website you posted is not an official LDS website. The information may be correct, but it was put together by people not acting under any LDS sanction and so; cannot be considered an "authoritative" source.

The Church does not sell memberships to any of its services.

Remember that the intended audience is not "survivalists" who have dedicated significant portions of their life to learning "primitive" skills. It's intended for office-bound dads, soccer moms, and their families who likely won't have the knowledge, skills, or equipment that we here take for granted.
