Most politicians start out as lawyers....and go downhill from there. Think about that, for a minute!

......... Pal, more like a helluva' lot of discontent. Bit by bit, government, at all levels, is attempting to take or control every dime we earn and control everything we do. Everything.

MOST, not all, but most, legislators, judges, and bureaucrats are absolutely pompous and arrogant in their abuse of the people who they are supposed to serve.

Technology has given government the power to invade our privacy at almost every level. I could give you scores of examples. Here's just one that came out this week:

Rhode Island will soon impose a two-tier toll structure on some of its bridges. If you use the "fast-lane" pass (which allows government to track and keep records of your travel) the toll fee will be $2.00. If you pay cash, the toll fee will be $4.00. Fast lane records have been subpoened in hundreds of CIVIL cases to ascertain the whereabouts of private citizens. (Massachusetts already announced an intention to put a chip in EVERY vehicle inspection sticker to track every vehicle that enters and leaves EVERY state highway. Permanent records of travel will be kept.) George Orwell's predictions are arriving just a bit later than he thought.

Some of you will say "Big deal, so what?" Wait. In 10 or 20 years you will ask yourselves "Why couldn't we see this coming?

That was true at one time. Not anymore. Think about this - it's the lawyers (not all, but most) who defend our liberties. They, together with our armed forces, are the people who defend the freedoms of our citizens. When they made up a high percentage of our legislatures, they USUALLY stopped bad bills before they even got out of committee.

Today, most legislators are non-lawyers who don't even read the bills they vote on and most of the ones who do don't understand the ramifications of the laws they enact. Many of the so-called lawyers who do hold office have never actually practiced law. But almost every one of them has one thing in common - they are beholden to the special interest groups who fund their campaigns and the media who can make or break their elections.

I think we should lobby for 2 laws.
    1. Any politician that votes on a bill, without reading and understanding it's meaning and consequences, will be found guilty of wilful negligence, and will face jail time.
    2. All bills in congress, will be written in language, that an average high school graduate, can understand.

Pretty wild assumption on your part 2d2k, thinking that today's high school graduates can actually read...

Don't admit to that, you're feeding you-know-who ammunition. (He'll never catch on to whom I'm referring)

I don't suppose it could have anything to do with the fact people have to be paid to handle the money if you pay cash but not if you use the fast lane could it?

The saddest part of this thread is everyone complaining and no one offering a solution. Anyone can *****, moan and complain. It takes someone with a smidgen of character to offer a solution. As I've said before. The majority of the people are upset but not SO upset that they are willing to get involved to fix anything. This thread pretty much bares that out.

...and if you sneak a question in, every now and then, under the politics radar, I'd be glad to offer a solution. I have many idea about how some of these things should be handled! LOL

Granted, those two ideas are just a start, but I had to point out that someone had offered suggestions, and not just bi***ed about it.

I stand by my earlier post. I said it takes someone with a smidgen of character to offer a solution.
