I've read a few posts now that have mentioned coming up on pot fields while hiking. What was your response, and how did you handle the situation? I also read that there were armed guards. Were you fired at, or given some kind of other warning to GO away?

Is it just me? If you have a bear around camp wouldn't you take every precaution to make certain food and smells are NOT in camp. I mean look at it from the bear's view. Guy on the ground in a bed roll = pigs in a blanket.

2D keeps his camp clean by putting it in and around Kens camp.

It has happened to me three times. Twice, my hiking parther and I were greeted with armed guards. We turned around and headed out the way we came. The third, we met no guards, but figured we would if we proceeded. We turned around and headed out the way we came. In the cases where we were met with armed guards, no shots were fired, no verbal warnings given. The sight of two in one case and three in the other Samoans armed with automatic weapons was all that needed to be said.

woah first snakes that kill, then spiders and bears now samoans armed with ak 47s i dont think i will go hiking in the us europe is a lot safer .

The reality is that if hikers and hunters come up missing, the search and rescue will still find there patch anyway

We like going up Jacobs mine side through Stockton on the ATV and ride some of them roads in that area. There's a nice water troff up there.
I figure that most of our canyons are pot farms.

I took my scouts up white pine canyon a few weeks ago. I guess we were lucky that we didn't see any farms. But, there is a radio tower at the peak, so there is a large chance of detection, which might keep them out of that area. We are going up deseret peak in a few weeks, and I doubt we will find any there, since it gets a lot of traffic as well.
