    Default Fixin' up a Hoopty

This post has a dual purpose. First, it serves as fair warning to all y'all within a 100 mile radius of Idaho that my 16-yr-old daughter is now on the roads unsupervised. Secondly, this is my declaration of braggin' rights (nothin' new, huh?).

My hubby bought her a beat-up 97 civic. We have spent the past several days raiding junk yards for parts. She replaced the a/c motor assembly this morning all by herself. Mama's little girl is growing up!

She'll do good in a Honda it is what my wife drives. They are OK to work on we've had several. I dread the day when my daughter has wheels to head out on her own. Guess I just gotta lay the best foundation I can. Believe me I can relate to what your feeling..
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

Good for her! Good to see she's getting her hands dirty, too. She WILL be the better for doing it.

She says she wants to take auto shop in H.S. this year. I was the only girl in auto shop when I was in H.S. so I guess she is my mini-me afterall.

Ok, I just won the sun visors on ebay for $21.45 total (including shipping)....not bad considering all the others were up to like $65 not counting the shipping. Tomorrow I go pick up the fender from the junk yard (they had to order it for $35). After that, we have to take the fender in to be painted (I don't do paint - except for the chartreus on the house, and that was only to ensure that I am never rangled into THAT job ever again). After that, we will put in the new headlights. I have to pick up a keyless entry clicker from this guy sometime this week. Then, Bethany needs to sweet talk her uncle into teaching her how to do some of the body work. I think it's gonna be pretty nice when we get done with it.

If she would ever sit still long enough I could get a few snap shots...
I'll try to get some before noon tomorrow. As a teenager, she NEVER gets up before noon.

ok, this is the only pic I have at the moment. Of course it is on the car's "good side" and the driver's side headlight has been cropped out of the pic. Tomorrow comes the good, the bad, and the ugly! BE PREPARED!

Looks like all the kings horses and all the kings men may not be needed. I think MM and daughter will be able to put Hoopty Doopty back together again.

Well, it's better than what my daughter will get. She is 8 now, and I plan to let her drive the car I have now, a 2002 Saturn SL2. By bro-in-law already found a deer with it in Texas, so it already has battle marks.

I picked up the front fender and paint yesterday. Now just waiting on the visors to come. Will probably have to wait till this weekend to paint the fender.

Today we sanded and spray painted the windshield wipers because the one we got at the junk yard was covered in splatter paint in multiple colors. We then painted the new fender (waiting for it to dry), installed the new headlights, pounded out the big dent in the rear end of the car and then ground it down and put primer on it. Tomorrow we BONDO! Still waiting on those visors...

Oh, also, I have fully equipped her hoopty with registration and insurance card, wet wipes, paper/pen, wind-up flashlight, tire gauge, a large plastic container in her trunk which contains: gallon of water, gas can, small tool box (with tools), jumper cables, first aid kit, beef jerky, kitty litter, a wool blanket. She can also throw her BOB in for good measure. Have I forgotten anything?

Toilet paper (you never know and it's multi-use) and a small shovel.
