    Default living on public land

i am looking to buy or rent some land, wlderness land, but i am curious becuase there was a guy talking about living in the wilderness for a year, and was going to build a shelter.what kind of trouble could you expect to get into if a ranger or whoever stumbles across you sitting in a chair looking at your deer ribs cooking in a fire and your smoked fish hanging there beside your small log cabin that you built out of small managable logs, and no fishing or hunting lics.

Well partner, if you've got life going that good, it'll be worth whatever trouble you might be in.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

well it can be done, if ya want to be found do it with/in 100 miles of any town, sooner or later you'll be found
i know of places that if you are smart enough, and a bit of luck you could probably go unnoticed for a year, but ya got to be smart about it, a nice cabin small tucked in the trees, so even in the winter if your burning dry wood the trees will help disapate the smoke also get proficient with a bow so no firearm noise to attract unwanted attention, trapping would also be a plus
    2 problems
first how to get way out there w/o being noticed, can't just walk from town or leave a car in the clearing that will be noticed
so either have someone drop you off way out there or get a horse
second problem is supplies you will need lots of salt for curing and flour and things such as this and ifn you got a horse well now thats a hole nudder matter
thrildly-plan for continginsies what happens ifn you are hurt badly in the middle of winter then what?
also what about ifn you are found be prepared to runw/o your gear or face the music, now i don't know if they would arrest you on the spot or what, i know are poaching laws are really lame, worst case looking at a fine=jail time ifn you gots no money, but a good way to sit out winter
why a year why not 14 months or 9 months, why evryones facination with just one year

Unless you live in a primitive way and in a very far off area, you will be caught by those who would arrest you for trying to be free.

Now if you choose to live in a small hut made of natural materials (not a log cabin made of timber) and live on fishing and foraging you could get away with it.

I did this for several months in a National Forest and nobody was the wiser.

robert also one thing,in a national forets you are allowed to stay for an alloted amount of time, so if you are crafty it may take a while for the rangers to ever see ya, and in some cases crafty means just being off the road or any road acsess cuz them boys rarely get out of them thar trucks

And what's the big deal about getting a license? A combo fishing/hunting license in Indiana is $25. Permits/stamps are additional but a license will net you squirrels and game birds and fish. As long as you are in season you're good to go.

No big deal. He qualified his apology by saying "my sincerest most humble." Think about it.

What about Nonresident licenses. most place those are considerably higher.

I think RR is talking about something like a dugout, or pit shelter. Much better choice for concealment.
