Thread: Atchafalaya Houseboat

    Default Atchafalaya Houseboat

I happened to catch this documentary on PBS the other night. I really, really enjoyed it! This couple lived in the swamp.... fished, grew their own food, etc. Cowboy & I have had our share of floating along in swamps, along with the alligators and snakes. But to hear this lady's story was inspiring!

I did a search and the program is still showing on some stations in the future, so I'd recommend if to anyone, if interested!

Looks like it was good sorry I missed it!

I saw it a couple of years ago, it was good. There are people still living on houseboats in the Atchafalaya Basin, but not as many as there were 10 or 15 years ago.

SC is pulling all houseboats out of the the swamp under a nuiscance legislature by 2012. What a joke!

Default It sounds Like the SC legislature is the nuisance!

The game and fish commission in Arkansas started trying to do the same thing on the White River back in the 90s. Much adieu about nothing as far as I am concerned. Unless it is a hazard to navigation a houseboat should not be a problem.

The legislature comes from the area resorts claiming it results in lost profits! Next we won't be able to pitch a tent in the swamp! Good thing I know places they don't and have a proper vessle to get there!

likewise as long as they are not polluting the water directly, which is it's own and separate matter.

in all the documentation i've seen and read about floating houses [particularly in the amazon, but also elsewhere] it sounds like a nice way to live. i'd try it if i had the opportunity.

Those are darn nice photos Mrs. Cowboy, I'm glad you made him.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Thanks for the pictures. The Acadians here often speak of Louisiana and the expulsion. Not one of history’s finer moments.

He only wears a pink shirt when he can pop his collar. Because being cool is what it's all about!
