    Default Vintage Mora?

I had never heard of Mora knifes before I joined this sight. Mostly I always fancied more of a large hunting knife. I know none of you have gathered that fact.... Well I had this old knife I bought marketed as a camp knife probably mid-90's anyhow It got lost in the backyard at my old house sometime ago. I ran accross it over there looking for something else. Is it maybe a Mora?

Not IS, that's a WAS. That WAS a Mora. It is an ex-mora, a former Mora, a late Mora. Not only that but I'm 99% sure it was carbon steel. Mac

I don't know about vintage, but you may be right about it being a Mora.

Yeah I remember it getting "real" sharp and stayin' that way! I think I can save it. I will post an after. I lost it more than 5yrs. ago. Rust seems to be mostly on the surface. Maybe it'll wind up a rehandled Mora like one of yours. I am glad I found it. I was fond of the knife, it is why it got lost I used it all the time. Somewhere I still have the case it came with. Don't think for a minute I do not care about my tools, cause they are extensions of my hands. Thanks for confirming it is a Mora. I think it was marketed by Coleman not sure though. I don't remember the name Mora on the packaging. But I could see a serious resemblance in it and the ones you all post. Thanks Mac!

Looks kinda like one to me. But the site that I got mine from don't show that exact model with a green handle. You might want to try removing the rust with some steel wool to see if you can read anything.

You've gotta be careful with inches - you know how it is - give someone an inch and they think they're a ruler.

Cowboy - if you go to re-handle it, just remember that Mora's are not full tang. Here's an x-ray view.

A new one will cost you about $10. That one looks like it would serve to stick in a zombie but apart from apocalyptic desperation I wouldn't spend too much time on it. Mac

ETA - Get one in stainless, you can leave them under your yard for way more than five years.

I wish there were more knives that weren't stainless. All my old carbon knives were soooo much easier to sharpen, with not much difference in edge retention. stainless can still rust in the right circumstances I'm just being nostalgic... and miss all those lost and stolen wonderful blades.....
Personally I say clean it up and make sure the handle is bright neon That way you won't lose it(hopefully).

    Mac,

I disagree it cleaned up pretty nice and should add to the quality of these knifes as a documentary. I brushed it off with some abrasives, put some Birchwood & Casey cold gun blue on her. Hit it with a wet stone and came back with my Arkansas and she cleaned up pretty nice and I have yet to see anyone post this model with the lanyard hole..... Might vouch for it being vintage. I can post all the knives anyone wants to see but I thought this one might be rare.

    Mac,

Is the knife at the bottom your pic carbon steel like this one is? Does it get the same edge on it? You have some nice knives and I enjoy your posts. I know my Mora was in disrepair but!!! at least she is back home and ready for a job.

    Crash,

I wish you could have seen the gun blue react with the metal. I showed the wife it was pretty neat. I am gonna do the Starrett knife with it. I have made it to experiment to see where I wanna take the leaf spring knife. Try blueing one it is worth it...

Back when I was a kid if we had cleaned up a handgun where the blue was worn we cleaned it with alcohol and took the balls that grow on oak trees and cut them. Rubbing
with them makes a decent, lasting, different type of blue. Darkened knife blades to keep the shine down with them or any acid type fruit or veggie. Give it a try on a scrap of carbon steel, different looks for different groceries.
