After seeing hubby glued to this website, I figured I had better join. lol

We're enjoying life in the country with 3 horses, a donkey & a dog - oh, and 2 crawfish.

I know I have lots to learn about wilderness survival, so this looks like a great place to be. Guns used to scare me 1/2 to death, but now I want to get my own. I want to learn to garden as well - if we had to live off of what I grew this year.... well, nevermind.

I want to learn to can too!

I enjoy the outdoors - camping, boating, fishing, hiking, etc. and especially riding & taking care of our horses. I was glad to see some fellow horse lovers on this site.

Welcome home. Gardening and canning are both pretty easy stuff. I do it so it doesn't take a lot of skill or smarts.

I'm starting to get this picture of Cowboy face down in the computer room with you sitting on his back, handgun at the nape of his neck...

Check with your local agricultural extension office on learning to can,they often have classes on just about anything you want to lean in the way of gardening.

Also,if you have elder neighbors,check in with them,they are a wealth of often forgotten information.

This was my first attempt at gardening, so I won't give up! I got WAY too gung-ho in the beginning & then fizzled out. Then the weeds & grass took over. I would have been better off with a small patch of a few things (Mom tried to tell me...lol).

My Mom also used to can, and is eager to teach me how (she hasn't done it in years, but got very excited when I brought it up!).

I will check out the Clemson Extension site for classes. I'll be 36 years young next month and can definitely learn new tricks.

Horses have been a HUGE part of my life since age 10. They are one of the few things (..... planting flowers & weeding included!) where I just totally lose myself in what I am doing. No worries, no planning, just totally enjoying the present moment.

But I think CS has made me start thinking more about the future. Maybe I wanted a "head in the sand" approach before, because it's scary when you think of the possiblities on what could happen years down the road.

So rather than focus on what I can't control (war, bomb, natural disaster, etc), I can focus on why I am here...... to be prepared.

I'm just getting back into canning(we call it bottling over here) after some years break, it's great to know you have home produced stores in the house.
