    Default Food & Supplies Inventory

Okay, here's another one of my "Am I Anal?" questions.

Like most of you, I rotate my food and other supplies I keep in stock, and I often try to purchase these items in quantity, in case lots, when on sale or at a warehouse retailer if the price is right.

I have inventory "check-off" sheets on a clipboard in the "pantry" as well on the freezer in the basement. Everyone usually complies with my request to "check-off" something when they use it or move it up to the kitchen, which makes restocking much easier. The biggest "movers" in the food list are the kid-friendly items such as tuna, peanut butter, mac & cheese, Bisquick, and Ovaltine. Veggies go a bit slower because we usually buy fresh produce, but ocassionally we'll dip into the canned items for home use and food drives, etc. Every so often, I just update the sheets on the computer, and restock as necessary.

Does anyone else do anything like this?

Yep - I've got checklists for quite a few things. Some think I have checklists for my checklists - but that's a bit extreme......what's that dear? It is on the list? Oh, OK.

I don't stock enough food items to necessitate a check list. I have quite a bit but I just rotate stuff as I use it. I have emergency foods in a BOB and stashed in another location. Those are A-Pak meals mostly and some meals I've put together. But "no" on the check list. "Yes" on the anal part but for many more reasons than this post.

kinda a check list but not really a list, we put painters tape on the shelf under the item and make a mark each time we take a can then we replace it with our case goods, and each time we use a case we log it on our shopping list.

Not much of a checklist guy anymore. Back "in the day" was an absolute necessity for equipment, personal and unit. Guess I am now adverse to lists. We use a stock rotator thingy that always keeps older cans and stuff to the front, but that is the extent of organization. I will withhold comment on the "Anal" question

Just a word of caution about writing the date on frozen meat. The ink, whether ball point or permanent, will transfer to your sink when you thaw the meat. I learned that the hard way. Somthing about the wrap doesn't hold the ink.

Yes, you are anal. But I guess that makes the rest of us anal too
I have a checklist, but I am the only one who uses it. My husband thinks my preparedness is extreme, so I keep most of it from his sensitive eyes (until the day it becomes necessary). I keep my stash in bins marked for other purposes and he doesnt seem to suspect.

Sooooo, if something happens to you, he starves to death in a house filled with food?

That, dear, is what we commonly refer to as a "personal problem". He is the one who thinks I am crazy for "hoarding" food. He can continue to think I am crazy in my grave with him headed in the same direction.

Are they alive for the explosion? Or is it like beating a dead horse?

Of course not - that's kind of normal.

New to the forum here and checking out all the post on here.
I myself don't have a checklist. I have 4 cases of mre's put up and have been ordering items from places like Mountain House. I haven't tried any of theses yet.I am planning on taking me another extended camping trip here shortly and see what they taste like and if they worth the money you got to pay for these things. $5000.00 for year supply for 1 person! Expensive!!!
As for everyday food I use ,it is restocked every time it gets low.

Why not just buy what you and your family will eat? If that includes Mountain House or MREs that's fine but there's no sense in making a bad situation worse by having to choke down food you really don't like.
