For my everyday knife I use a inexpensive Chinese knife. It's sharp, stays sharp, and cuts things like plastic packing strap on pallets, and opens boxes, and cuts through packing tape. The half serration also helps cut through rope.

My Buck folder lockblade is a good knife, but too heavy to carry. I actually wore a hole in my pocket with one of my heavier knives. So I tend to carry lighter knives.

Cool thread! I wish I could get one each of all the cool knives on here...

For me, I keep a CRKT M16 in my back pocket all the time. It gets used constantly, and holds an edge pretty well. I also have a Coldsteel Pocket Bushman in my go bag; it is darn tough, and is plenty strong enough for batoning, medium chopping work, and the like. Its just a little too big to carry around as a daily use pocketknife. Not because of the weight, but because it freaks people out when I open it to cut a piece of twine or something!

I personally love my CRKT M16-13M spear point blade with serrations. It has been my everyday carry since 2003. I used to have a spyderco endura 4, but lost it somewhere. The only other folders that gets much time in my pocket is my SAK, the soldier model to be exact. I have a trekker model to but that resides in the pouch of my camillus becker utility 7 sheath in my BOB. One other folder that I would recommend for survival or wilderness use would be the Buck 110. It has been proven by many a hunter and outdoorsmen.

@ Bulrush - Nothing wrong with that Chinese knife. I have a Japanese stainless that I've carried for years. I've had it in the woods I don't know how many times and skinned a lot of bunnies and squirrels with it. It just works. Only recently have I "retired" it and started carrying other brands.

Heck, the Chinese use Chinese knives and there are a lot more of them that there are of us and they've been making blades a lot longer than we have.

I had a Vic SAK Farmer that I used when I went camping. Its really the only knife I used even though I had more than one knife on me. I would really like to have this with me if I were in a survival situation.

Heh. Thanks. I figured on this site there are a lot of people who favor the more expensive knives, remembering the poor quality of import knives from 20 years ago. But I was impressed with the knives I received last month. I'd use them in my everyday carry.

Unfortunately, I see mostly crap stainless from Pakistan and Blank-istan still.

I had this Smith & Wesson CK70 Extreme Ops given to me two years ago and have been carrying it daily ever since. They can be purchased for $29.99 and are a very good knife for the money.

I've got a few Smith & Wesson folders. Most reports that I have read called them junk. They have never let me down and have performed well when I needed them. I guess some reports may vary.

I just don't believe in the old adage, "You get what you pay for" anymore. While it's true there are some excellent top dollar knives out there, if you look around you can find some great quality, inexpensive knives that will work hard. And, as others have said, it's not such a heart break (or financial calamity) if you break an inexpensive knife or loose it.

After carrying mine for two years I have only one complaint.
I was camping out and decided to take a 3-mile hike the following day. I found a Sycamore sapling near camp that I cut down to make a walking stick from. After carving and cutting on this wrist thick sapling for nearly two hours I had a tender blister on the palm of my hand.
The knife being so thin is kind of tough on the hands.
