There is a weapon that takes only seconds to manufacture, is deadly, and will not raise the hackles of any inspection. Sharpening the edge of an old credit card with a sander making in razor sharp. Carry it in your wallet - just another Visa card.

Lighters and matches are permitted to be carried not packed. I don't think there will be a ban for fire starters. Anyway, if someone lights up anything the other passengers will undoubtedly react as in the past.

Lets not give out the ideas for weapon construction on aircraft. That would raise some flags.

You know - I thought about that when I was posting. Actually debated whether or not to post it. Decided to because it is out there - they're as sharp as a box cutter - so if people are aware of it they might be better prepared.

Awareness is a part of survival. I will also add that if your caught trying to artfully conceal a weapon with the purpose of boarding an aircraft you will be taking a different trip.

You had better luck than I have had when dealing with Homeland Security. Here is just a short list of what I went through. First of all, I am now retired and during my career I investigated Islamic terrorism in New York and also worked as a consultant and contract investigator for a private think tank agency known as the Investigative Project for Terrorism. On one occassion, I was working on terrorism case with New York State Police and was given a contact number and told to call the CIA, as it involved foreign countries. I spoke to the woman at CIA HQ, and told her I had information concerning someone from Qatar. She said she never heard of Qatar, and wanted to know how to spell it. I then gave her information regarding Azerbaijan. She never heard of Azerbaijan. Again I had to spell it. Then she told me to send an email with the information, to which I received a reply to not send any more information. I sent a reply back stating that with the huge budget they receive, perhaps they could buy a map.
On another occassion I was conducting a surveillance on an isolated house in upstate NY which was a suspected safehouse for foreign Muslims. This house was usually abandoned but an unidentified vehicle showed up. I telephone HQ of counter-terrorist unit as instructed and was advised that it was the weekend and noone was working that day, but call back on Monday.
Another time, I was contacted by NYSP and, as at the time I was working on the gang intelligence unit and had many gang informants, they asked if I had any informants in the salvadoran gang, MS-13, as they were suspected of smuggling Muslims into the country. I told them I had two informants, and these informants agreed to cooperate with NYSP investigation in return for not being deported. I arranged for SP to interview these guys but the investigators never showed up or contacted me. Meanwhile my informants are getting nervous. I finally called SP who told me they were ordered off case by FBI, who were angry they did not get first crack at the interview. FBI says they want to talk to the MS-13 dudes, so I arrange another meeting. FBI never shows up. Noone ever talked to the informants, who had a lot of information.
Another time there was an informant who had knowledge of a black Muslim plot to recruit terrorists in NYC. I notified Homeland Security, and they come in and act all cloak and dagger and promise the guy, who was already locked up, a transfer to a prison closer to home. However, they never made good on this and the guy clammed up. He said I was the only one he would talk to as I never lied to him. Homeland Security said it was their case and he could only talk to them. So he refused to talk to anyone and the information went nowhere. After this I applied to go to Iraq on a program to train Iraqi police. My boss put the squash on this by telling the recruiter that I was "too violent" and "hate Muslims." How can you be too violent in Iraq? And as for hating Muslims, I hate terrorists, not Muslims. And for that matter I had much more success dealing with Muslim informants than the govt. types I have worked with.
I am sorry to go on at such length, but this whole thing was the reason I am now retired as I could not take it any more. I am sure there are many competent and dedicated people in Homeland Security. I just never seemed to run into them. I am now in Thailand, and have no more to do with terrorism. But I worry about America all the time.

    That's why I don't buy into a government conspiracy.

I thought you all might get a kick out of this.

"A Sunni opposition group named Jundollah (God's Soldiers), which Iran says is part of the Islamist al Qaeda network and backed by the United States, said it was behind the bombing, Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television said on Friday."

Sadly, there are career bureaucrats at most government agencies. Many are competent, dedicated professional. Some are not. Removing those that are not is very difficult, even if there is a desire to do so.

Unfortunately there are those that will read that story and be convinced that they are also running the FEMA camps.

Just a minor FYI. Those fire starters are not generally magnesium. The part that creates a spark is called "ferrocerium", "mischmetal" or just "ferro rods". They are sometimes called "flint" but are not flint at all. Some models come with a block of magnesium, the shavings of which are used for tinder, but there is also a rod of ferro metal to create sparks.
